For our feline fans, this is a special guest post
featuring Muffet Cat from Murder in the Paperback Parlor by Ellery
Adams; Merlot, Syrah, Chablis, and Magpie from The Cat, The Sneak, and The
Secret by Leann Sweeney; and Barney and Scout from Mary Kennedy’s Dream A
Little Scream.
There’s a chance for you to win one of three fabulous
prizes too! (A black scarf, paw print dish towels, and cat/book earrings). All you have to do is comment of ask a kitty a question and you’re entered! We’ll pick three lucky readers August 4th, the day our three books hit the shelves!
1. What is your role in your human household? Are you
primarily a lap cat or do you fulfill other roles?
Muffet Cat:
I have multiple jobs at Storyton Resort. I am the main rodent eradicator, the
official cream tester, and, because of my girth, I am able to warm the largest
of laps in my role of human comforter.

Barney and Scout: We're primarily lap cats and provide lots of cuddling
time with Ali and Taylor. After a hard day at Oldies But Goodies, they're happy
to relax with us.
2. Your human is often caught up in dangerous and
threatening situations. Have you ever provided assistance during these trying
times?
Muffet Cat: I
have a cat’s ability to sense wickedness in humans. A bad person just doesn’t
smell right. Plus, there’s a stiffness to them that any feline with half a
brain can detect. I let my caretakers know that such a human is in our presence
by growling.
Merlot: All
three of us —Syrah, Merlot and Chablis- have helped many times. We provide
clues, we sniff out strangers and we are always on alert. We can tell the good
guys from the bad guys. And we’ve had visitors—like our newest visitor
Magpie—who also assist. But I am a Maine coon, the biggest cat, and I am pretty
good at protecting Jillian Hart. We all love her after all.

3. When you’ve done something wonderful, which most
surely happen quite often, what kind of treat are you given as a reward?
Muffet Cat: Fortunately,
I am a coddled and adored pet. I am regularly served cream and treats, as is my
due as the only pet in residence, but when I’ve been particularly impressive, I
am given tuna on a porcelain dish. I prefer my food on fine china. I have very finicky
tastes, despite my background as a humble stray.
Chablis answers: Since I am the treat monster, I have to say, we like just about
anything. We can be picky about people food, but cheese? Oh, we love cheese
almost as much as those pesky mice in the basement. If I had to pick a
favorite, I’d say tuna.
Barney and Scout: We're both very fond of tuna fish and we can always
use some new catnip mice. Barney keeps pushing our catnip mice under the
refrigerator and they're gone forever!
4. Is there a human you see on a regular basis who
you wish would relocate to a distant place? (Antarctica would be nice). Who is
that person and why do they get your whiskers in a twist?

Syrah answers: As I mentioned before, Lydia Monk could take a long hike off a short
pier. She’s out of touch with reality and can be very unpleasant to our mom.
Our mom, by the way, is the nicest, kindest, bestest mom on earth. We like Tom,
too. We have to. He might be moving in.
Barney and Scout: We're very lucky that we like all of Ali and
Taylor's friends. That could change, of course. But for the moment, we are
surrounded by cat lovers.
5. Can you give us a tiny hint, a “purrfect” feline preview, of something
that will happen in Murder in the Paperback Parlor , The Cat, The
Sneak, and The Secret and Dream a Little Scream, and that readers
simply won’t want to miss?

Magpie: I
can tell you first off, that being fostered by Jillian Hart is awesome. As for
hints, well, I come to stay awhile and I cannot help myself. I’m a bit of a
klepto and one of the things I “borrow” in the new story turns out to be pretty
important and gets a lot of people in trouble. So it all starts when I’m the
cat in trouble. I can’t say more!
Barney and Scout: Sometimes a "secret" ingredient in a recipe
can be deadly. (Barney and Scout exchange little smiles). As the reader will
discover in the opening chapters...

Hi kitties, lovely to hear from you all. Can I ask you all another question? Your person and or people are the star of the books, do you mind taking the role of supporting character? Although you do often steal the scene with your feline antics.
Syrah says: I am NOT the star??? Are you kidding me. Muffet Cat says: What?? We have been misinformed. Barney and Scout: Something is NOT right here. We were told WE are the stars and all we have to do is look pretty. This is not what we signed up for.
What do you cats like to do for fun? My cats love to run around the house and sometimes get into things they shouldn't.
Moonbay7399@gmail.com
Hi Lois. This is Magpie. Before I came to visit with Jillian Hart, I'd never had tuna treats like she has. They are awesome and stole some and hid them in the basement for later.
Muffet Cat here: I own Storyton so I have a lot of responsibilities. For fun? I sleep just like Barney and Scout. From what I've heard, Magpie just steals stuff.
I, Muffet Cat, have a range of amusements. I enjoy sitting under tables during afternoon tea and judging which ladies will feed me choice tidbits. I love patrolling the corridors of Storyton Hall when everyone is asleep—nighttime is when I'm at my best. And I adore hunting. The Steward family found my outside in the middle of a storm when I was just a tiny kitten and the outdoors is in my blood. It calls to me and I must answer. And if I end up with a nice, juicy rodent as a result? That's my idea of fun!
Good morning cats. My question is how often do you get distracted when you're on the job? My cats try to stay focused on one thing, but as soon as my son brings out the laser pointer, all bets are off, even of they are playing with their toy mice.
Never fear you are all so near and dear to the reader's heart's. Your personalities and devotion keep us coming back for the next story.
I liked hearing what your role is in the household. My cat Bobbi and Gus the dog, like to watch the house while we are at work. Bobbi takes first shift, keeping an eye on the front drive as we drive off to earn money for her kibble.
Chablis answers: Are you talking about the RED DOT?? That red dot can go ... sorry. I have never been lucky enough to catch the red dot so I am bitter. And I understand their distraction. It's impossible to ignore the red dot. (Do you think there is a support group that will help us deal with this??)
Merlot says: Well, dogs CAN be okay. Some of them. Gus might be one of them. I think. I'd have to hiss at him a few times and see what he does.
I like the way the cats help out in the books and are made part of the story. I also like all the treats they get to enjoy, especially cheese. I love cheese!!!
Congrats, on four terrific reads. August is the best month ever. Love hearing from your cats…they always have so much to say.
Oh Syrah, you are delightful! I like your snarkiness. I love that all of you felines know more than others think you know. So, my question: What/where is your favorite place to "spy" on people to keep an eye on your houses and businesses?
Such feline intelligence! Looking forward to the books...
Hello cute kitties! My four furry friends (and the dog!) would like to tell you how lucky you are to actually get the tuna. We only get the "tuna juice" that Mom drains off before she and Dad eat it. We won't complain because we love tuna juice! We run to the kitchen every time Mom uses the can opener, just in case. 🐈🐟
Chablis I think a support group would be a great idea to get one started, as long as someone don't sneak one in, cuz I see that turning into a "cat-tastrophy" :) I imagine that many cats chasing after the red dot... oh my
For all the kitties, what is your favorite toy or possession? For Syrah, Chablis, and Merlot - who was your favorite feline visitor? hcalhoun78@yahoo.com
Love hearing the cats' thoughts. We don't always hear enough from their point of view!
Muffet Cat, I'm sure you have some ideas for doing away with Mrs. Templeton's evil machine. Care to share?
Mr. Snookie says he loves tuna juice the most (he doesn't realize his kidney medicine is in there)!
Great getting the kitties point of view. Love cats but my Bella (rescue Corgi mix dog) won't tolerate other animals except my daughter's cats and dogs (except for the dachshund which terrorizes her). So I have to be content with visiting Tracey's Stripes and Cat. Stripes thinks it's his job to help when you're on the computer - loves the touch screen. :)
Very cute read!!
Does it bother you that your human watches you on secret cameras in her house? Or is this your chance to show off for her! Kuzlin at AOL.com
Hello Kitties, Our kitty family lives in a winery. Some of us are OK with customers petting us, some of us run and hide. How do we teach the nervous nellies that people are friendly?
Muffet Cat, do you know there is a book where there is a rat called Templeton? Do you think the housekeeper and him are related?
How do you feel and what do you do when a human ignores you?
Zena
Oh these are so funny. It's amazing what different personalities cats have and these cats stay true to life. I thought it was funny that the Cats in Trouble cats said they have to like Tom because he may be moving in! On a side note, if I were a cat living with the yard and lake around Jillian's house...I would be trying to sneak outside. Repeatedly.
Congratulations on your upcoming releases this Tuesday. I'm glad you are there to protect your humans.
Dru
To all of the cats: what are your favorite activities?
Love you all, Chris
My cat Bessie, is very shy and doesn't like to be held. Yet she loves to sleep with me and lean up against my leg. Bessie loved hearing about all the cats. Yes, I read them to her. She is reclining in the basket at me feet as I type this. She loves tuna too and can hear the can open even if she is sound asleep.
My cats don't like seafood flavored treats or dry cat food but they love real tuna. I guess they only like the good stuff.
All of you cats are so wise. How do you repress the urge to be the star of the books and let you humans get credit for solving the mysteries?
suefarrell.farrell@gmail.com
I, Muffet Cat, prefer to spy from the top of the stair landing or under the tea tables in the Agatha Christie Tea Room. One hears all sorts of things during afternoon tea and one never knows when a piece of ham might just fall on the floor during an eavesdropping session.
I have considered gnawing through the cord, but I don't care for the taste. Pfffttt! I am thinking of leaving long bits of thread in the hallway to jam the spinning part on the noisy thing's head. Perhaps the thread can blow out the entire engine. Horrid machine. What's wrong with a broom?
I was nervous as a kitten because I was dumped by my original owners. Let Nervous Nelly meet people one at a time. Be patient. Kitty personalities don't change, but we can learn to trust. Let Nelly just sniff a hand without being pet until she's comfortable. Sometimes, we don't want to be touched if we're anxious.
Ah, we know we're the stars! Who appears on the covers? I don't see a human one a single one! (feline laughter)
Hey awesome furry babies! What causes a cat fit and you can't seem to control yourselves when you're zipping around and running up walls?
I believe Ellery Adams is quite fond of that rat. I don't know why, since cats are clearly the superior species, but apparently, she named the housekeeper after him!
What is the appropriate time, place and reason to hiss?
Chablis. Maybe a support group won't be necessary. (Ha!) In 20 years and 6 cats I have had only one who would not chase the red dot. She did for about a year. But then one day she gave me the dirtiest look as she watched our tom chase the dot. She had stepped back to give him his turn at the 'red dot' and had realized that the laser mouse in my hand was the source. Since then she has refused to chase the "red dot". Della at deepotter@peoplepc.com
Many people think cats have ADD (Attention-Deficit Disorder). I admit, our feline minds are so nimble, we sometimes look as if we are jumping from toy to toy and not focusing. But when the chips are down, we can stay "on topic" and do what needs to be done. Especially in mysteries where there is so much at stake. Cats are good in life and death situations. Seriously! We've asked my human (Mary Kennedy to post this for us. This clunky keyboard wasn't intended for our delicate little cat paws. Thanks for stopping by. We're happy to see so many cat fans!! Barney and Scout from The Dream Club Mysteries.
Although in real life, I am a dog person, I do like to get to know cats in mysteries. You guys are all so great! You wouldn't really mind if a d-o-g moved in with you, would you?
The members of the Dream Club are given strict instructions not to give us treats, but they have so many delectable goodies at the meetings, that we have resorted to begging! And luckily, the Dream Club members are big-time cat lovers, and well, you get the picture. The only thing we never, never get is chocolate and that is because it is really bad for kitties and can be fatal. We love the other treats they serve, though. Barney and Scout (posted by their human, Mary Kennedy)
Susan, we have to be smart to outwit the "bad guys" in these mysteries. We want truth and justice to triumph in the end. Cats rock, we really do! Barney and Scout from Dream a Little Scream, posted by their human, Mary Kennedy
Our favorite toy is a banana catnip toy that the fabulous Ellery Adams recommended! We are so grateful that our human immediately ordered two of them (because I accidentally pushed one under the fridge and it seems to be gone forever. My bad.) Barney from Dream a Little Scream (posted by his human, Mary Kennedy)
Since I'm new to these series I was wondering about family dynamics.
Do you get along all the time or is there some rivalry? How do you mediate your differences when there are any?
thanks.
Sherry, Barney and I do the same thing. We can be dead asleep and as soon as we hear the can opener--bingo!! We are out in the kitchen in a flash!! Scout, from the Dream Club Mysteries, posted by her human, Mary Kennedy
Barney and I love to just chill, sitting on the window sill, looking out at the Savannah street below. We also like staring out at the back patio behind Oldies But Goodies. There are umbrella tables out there (our owners have started serving sandwiches and snacks) and we love to people-watch. Scout, from the Dream Club Mysteries, posted by her human, Mary Kennedy
Lois, we make sure that our guardian only buys "dolphin-safe" tuna for us. That's very important!! Barney and Scout from the Dream Club mysteries. Tuna juice is our fave treat.
Barney and Scout here. We tolerate "some" dogs (the ones who acknowledge that we, cats, are the superior beings!). We like Remy, a dog who visits us occasionally. Remy belongs to Sara, a reporter friend of Ali and Taylor. I have to say, for a dog, Remy is really awesome! Barney and Scout from the Dream Club Mysteries.
I lost my kitty two months ago. He was 18 years old and brought my love and joy to my life. Reading about Muffet Cat, Merlot, Syrah, Chablis, Magpie, Barney and Scout, has helped fill a void left behind by his passing. You kitties are helping me through a difficult time. Thank you! 😻
Barney and Scout...waving their paws to Duffy, who is an exceptional human being and a fantastic writer!!
All of these books are wonderful but wouldn't be as fabulous without felines!!
Glad to hear that, Erika. Barney and I have LOTS of good ideas on how to catch the killers in the Dream Club Mysteries. Somehow, we get overshadowed when the Dream Club meets to share their dreams every week. They think the best clues come from their dreams, but honestly, if they would just ASK us our opinion, we would give them an earful!! Cats are excellent detectives because we are very observant, we have a lot of time on our paws, and we are awesome judges of character. Barney and Scout from DREAM A LITTLE SCREAM.

Dear Anonymous, the key to dealing with a human is to never give up!! Keep tapping the human with your paw, meow plaintively and give your most winsome look. It will pay off eventually, at least that has been our experience. Barney and Scout, who are pretty darn irresistible, come to think of it!!
Hi Dru...thanks for stopping by. These poor humans--what would they do without us??? We shudder to think of it. Barney and Scout from Dream a Little Scream
Hi Diane, Bessie sounds like a cat we would like to get to know! Barney and Scout from the Dream Club Mysteries
I love reading about cats and living with them. Very entertaining.
Syrah here: I wait in the foyer of course. There is very nice corner to observe people who enter. I watch them. I can tell if they don't like felines almost at once. Those types? They get the MOST attention. (hehehehehe)
Phyllis, some cats are purists when it comes to tuna. They only like white, albacore tuna (dolphin safe). Some of us will scarf down almost any flavor of cat treat! Barney and Scout.
Chablis: tuna ... tuna.... tuna ... tuna ....OH PLEASE let me visit the tuna juice house!
When a visiting dog doesn't behave himself, when someone makes disparaging remarks about cats and when a murderer enters the room. Barney and Scout from the Dream Club Mysteries
We would be cool with that. We like visiting dogs and who knows, maybe someday we will welcome one into our little family!! Barney and Scout.
Chablis. Thank you. Do you have tuna?
Syrah says: Well, don't say it out loud because Mr. Snookie will thwart you. We do that, you know.
Helen, we are so sad to hear about the passing of your kitty. I know you miss him terribly. We are glad that hearing about our antics brings you some comfort. Your kitty may have crossed the Rainbow Bridge but he will live forever in your heart. Barney and Scout.
Chablis: You can come to our house and visit us if you bring tuna.
Very true!!! Barney and Scout, nodding their heads in agreement!
Many of our readers tells us a house seems empty without kitties. Once you have had a cat in your life, you always crave feline affection. Barney and Scout.
Syrah: WHAT??? IGNORE ME??? That will never happen.
Chablis: Roll on my back for a tummy rub.
Merlot: Follow you. Very quietly. But I will be your shadow.
Thanks Dru!
The only thing we ever squabble about is who gets the window sill facing the Savannah Street, and who gets the window sill facing the back garden. It's all good and we usually take turns. Barney and Scout.
Chablis: TUNA!! Yes!!
Syrah says: Well, I must say that lack of adequate petting and constant attention may (I said MAY) cause me to lose control for a bit. Works every time. :-)
Love the cats! Especially when they bedevil Lydia monk!
Love the cats! Especially when they bedevil Lydia monk!
I have a question for Muffet Cat. Muffet Cat, you are surrounded by all those wonderful books at Storyton Hall. Does anyone ever read to you? If yes, do you have a favorite book?
Thanks to all the wonderful felines for your interviews today!
Loved it! You're all stars...PURRS! :)
Hi babies! It must be exciting to help your people in such important ways! Not only do you help in the big events (saving your person from the bad guys) but you are there for the priceless times, providing anything from love, comfort, and entertainment. We know who the real stars are! Thank you for sharing your person with us! jeaniedannheim ( at ) ymail ( dot ) com
Hello kitties, both my cats were adopted from a shelter.they are the loves of my life.one of my cats prefers to play with my dog and I think she acts more like a dog. Do any of you cats think more like a dog?
For all the kitties: "What is your favorite toy/thing to play with?"
This is to Merlot, Syrah, and Chablis: Did you know each other before Hurricane Katrina or were you just at the same shelter so Jillian ended up rescuing all of you? Cordella
Does anyone ever read to you? If so, what is your favorite book?
peggyhyndman(at)att(dot)net
Kitties, where are your favorite retreats and hideaways in your respective homes?
Love all of you! But a question for all you little fur balls: how can I get my adopted shelter cat (she was a year old when I got her a year ago) to stop randomly peeing in my dirty laundry basket? She has 2 litter boxes that she uses, but every once in a while just decides to use my laundry???
I have two kitties who do not like to share the lap, what advice do you give for sharing?
Thanks, Dru! You're the best!
Hm, that is a tough one! Maybe they each need their own cat beds and when they can't have the lap, they can go to their special bed or blanket close to your lap. But no cat gets to hog the lap. It's one hour and then off you go! The next cat gets a turn!
Indeed, I am frequently read to by Aunt Octavia. I often fall asleep to the sound of her voice. Her lap (and her pillow) are both quite fluffy and warm. I expected to love Of Mice and Men, but there were hardly any references to mice at all! I don't understand humans.
I am so sorry, Helen. Having a companion for that long is a very hard loss to bear. When I lost my Griffin, who'd been with me for 17 years, I had a really hard time. I kept feeling him around the house and it was months before I was able to let him go. I've had many cats since then, but he was the feline love of my life. Sending you a big hug.
I love all the kitties and hearing their side of the story. I have a Maine Coon girl. She likes to play in water, but hates a bath. Does Merlot like water?
The cats are the best. We all know that their human pets can't solve any mystery without them.
I agree 'Secret Ingredient's can be deadly beware.
A book is not a book without a cat. Simple.
I have been waiting for all of these books! Thanks for the giveaway.
My question is why are cats always swiping at stuff to knock it over?
Cat paradise! I love cats, books, and libraries. Always happy about new releases.
Loved hearing from these cats! Looking forward to the latest books!
Dear Fellow Felines,
My owner laughed while reading your purrrrfectly delightful statements. She's so immature, just as most humans are. However, she does leave on the talking box with shows with other cats to keep me company when she leaves. She accidentally left the big door to the no-no room open last night, and as I explored the human chairs and table I found out why. She had a large plant of catnip with some other greens that she has been keeping for herself! I had nibble, then another, and well, I ate it all and fell asleep after playing with some yarn, toilet paper (isn't unrolling it fun?), and curling up on top of the kitchen no-no counter. I have headache this morning. What's your favorite thing to do after a few sumptuous bites of catnip? Feline Fondness, Napoleon Noparts
Thx for the opportunity to participate. have to laugh at the "stray" who prefers to eat off of fine china. Sounds familiar, in our household, the youngest of our strays will only eat out of a glass bowl... will not drink water or eat cat food out of plastic bowls.... and, why oh who do they put the toys under the refrigerator? Here, too .... I keep getting down the yardstick and pulling them back out ... must be a reason!!!!.
I really love kitties, and am unfortunately allergic to them. Glad I can read about them and enjoy them vicariously through the books. 😄- Christa Hill
Thank you for sharing and protecting your humans. My cat, Tiki, also protects me. She looks in the yard for interlopers , such as raccoons or skunks, She also let's me know when she doesn't like someone. I pay attention to her behavior. She is wonderful. Keep up the good work!
:-)
Do any of you kitties ever want to smack your loved one upside the head with your paw when they are ignoring something that you are so obviously trying to point out to them? LOL
Merlot: Jillian, the woman we own, has a young man named Finn in her life. Finn has a dog named Yoshi. We've decided together that Yoshi is okay. He gets excited and wants to eat our food, of course. But we have trained him.
I totally understand, Helen. it is so difficult to bear. I lost Marlowe last November. He was a very special cat and I know your kitty was, too.
Merlot, Syrah and Chablis agree all the kitties featured today are PURR-fect!
Merlot says: I am a Maine coon cat and weigh about 20 pounds. My breed is often called the "dog" of the cat world. Personally, I am all feline, through and through. Just perhaps as watchful as a dog.
We all ended up at a shelter in Houston Texas. Many people and pet ended up in that city since it is not that far from New Orleans. In fact, our creator, Leann Sweeney, worked in a school where children of Hurricane Survivors went to school in Houston for more than a year.
Syrah answers: Anything Lydia Monk wears that dangles or that moves when she walks. Do you know that crazy woman?
Hi kitties
My big question for all of you where is your favorite place to be when your not purring around the legs of your family ?
Syrah answers: Why, because we can. That's the reason we do all things the human servants believe are "bad." We have a lot of tools in our box for getting attention. And we are all about attention!
I have 2 kitties, a brother and sister. Spitter (brother) likes to play fetch like a dog. Speedy (sister) only has one eye and likes to lay on paper and other crinkly things. Do any of you like to do odd things like this?
My favorite hobby is reading, followed by doing artsy-craftsy things. What kinds of hobbies do y'all enjoy when not helping your humans solve mysteries?
Catnip. I fear I am an addict. Don't tell Aunt Octavia. I don't want to go to rehab. I hear there's no tuna there.
Muffet Cat here: Bathing, napping, looking magnificent, and watching birds out the window. I'd rather not hunt them. That requires too much effort. But I do love to watch them jump about the tree limbs. And I love being read to. Especially while being pet on the comfort of a warm and expansive lap.
Do you play with toys? Is it only when a human is involved?
Jeannie, we know some Maine Coon cats who adore playing in water. I wonder if this is unique to the breed? Barney and Scout
We totally agree!!! Barney and Scout!
Our favorite book is the classic The Cat Who Walked by Himself by Rudyard Kipling. Barney and Scout, from the Dream Club Mysteries
Yes, I think Syrah is right, it's a control issue. It is soooo tempting to knock an item off a counter. We try to restrain ourselves, because sometimes it annoys our humans--but hey, we're cats. We have to do what we have to do..Barney and Scout.
We love you, too!! Barney and Scout.
Yes, we have to admit, the idea is tempting. How can our human ignore us, we ask? What could POSSIBLY be more important than tending to our little cat needs. We find it appalling (and amazing!) that a human could ignore us, but sometimes it happens. We try to correct the human--gently of course--because the best way to train a human is through kindness. Barney and Scout.
I have a favorite hidey-hole, even Barney doesn't know where it is. I might reveal it in Book 3. Scout, from the Dream Club Mysteries.
I happen to be extremely fond of catnip mice and my humans are expected to provide a steady stream of them. The catnip scent "fades" (as we all know) after time, and I like my catnip mice FRESH. I've had to add "buy catnip mice" to my human's shopping list more times than I can tell you! Barney, from the Dream Club Mysteries.
We like crafty things if it involves lot of string or yarn. It's great fun to get all tangled up in it! Sometimes the human finds it less funny than we do. Barney and Scout.
Ria, Barney and I were given a "cat tunnel" as a gift last Christmas and it's a lot of fun. It makes a crinkly noise when we walk through it. Another advantage is that Ali and Taylor think we look ADORABLE peeking out of the tunnel, so now we have to do it all the time. They smile and give us treats. That's the only downside to doing cute things or tricks, for humans. Honestly, they're like children. They want you to do it 200 times and they never get tired of it!! Oh well, they're humans, after all, and we have to allow for that. And they do give us good treats. Expensive stuff. So I guess I'll swallow my pride and peek out of this stupid tunnel ONE MORE TIME.
Taking power naps!! Some people call them "cat naps" but that seems too passive. We like the term power naps because we recharge ourselves and come up with interesting theories about the mysteries that take place in the books. Barney and Scout from the Dream Club Mysteries
Sue, we learned as kittens that humans have fragile egos--they don't seem to be as resilient as we are. So it would wound them greatly if they realized that we are "the brains behind the operation." We try to be discreet in our crime-solving. That way our humans will be happy and a happy human is more likely to buy tuna treats! I hope that last sentence doesn't make us sound too shallow. Barney and Scout from the Dream Club Mysteries.
Jinx favorite spot is my bookshelf. What is your cats favorite spot?
Thanks for stopping by Grandma. (Did you happen to bring any tuna?)
Syrah says: You are SO right. We are very very clever when it counts.
Thanks Angela!
Chablis: My fellow housemates like a little "nip" far more than I do. I recall an incident with buttons all over the house after one incident of "nipping." That button box turned out to be very important.
Barney is fond of sprawling across the keyboard on Ali's laptop. He's a pretty hefty cat and he squishes so many keys, the letters dance across the page. The first time he did it, Ali thought it was cute. She was right in the middle of an e-mail to a candy supplier for the shop Oldies But Goodies. But lately, she seems less amused and scoops him up and deposits him on the floor. Very undignified. My favorite spot? I prefer to sleep on laundry when it's right out of the dryer. Warm and comfy. Taylor says she had to get rid of all her black clothing because it shows up the "cat fur." I was a little annoyed at that remark, but managed to bite my tongue. It was "salmon night" and I figured there was no sense in antagonizing her. (plus, why does she need to wear black? This is SAVANNAH, for heaven's sake.) Scout, from the Dream Club Mysteries.
Merlot says; Tiki is very smart. I know my brother Syrah once thought he could take on a skunk. And he thinks he's the smart one. Not that day.
Chablis: I'll admit I'm the one who hides at times. Under beds, mostly. I'd love to "hide" in the pantry where the tuna treats reside. "someone" always keeps the door closed. Rats.
She's marking her territory--which is YOU. Have you tried getting a brand new laundry basket and relocating it?
Merlot says: I am too big to mess with--and I keep myself perfectly clean. My sister Chablis, however, LIKES a bath. She even likes that awful hair fryer. Does she think she's going to a cat show or something?
Syrah, Chablis and Merlot in unison: Looking out at the lake! There's fish in there!
I believe that kitties are much better at helping their humans solve mysteries than any other animal friends. Why do you think this is true?
"I am not the sidekick! If there is a crime to uncover, I'm the one that sparks the 'humans' knowledge. But, I don't need the credit...maybe, just a fishy treat!" Cats are crazy creatures. kat8762@aol.com
How did your...ummm..."keepers" survive before you all came into their lives? I mean, sometimes it's like they don't have the sense to come in from the rain!

ROCCOsez "How did I miss interviewing you cats????? We must rectify this situation!
I love our fictional felines. My most recent encounter was with Muffet Cat and I must say, she is a budding detective and has great potential as a spy cat, sniffing out her humans no matter where they are - hiding in a secret passageway, for example. Our 18 year old cat, Lacey likes to set our routine instead of the other way around. She lets me know when it's bedtime and when breakfast should be served. I'd better hop to it when she wants to be fed, because she gets quite vocal and the other folks get annoyed when she wakes them up. Last thought; tuna is great, but salmon is good, too.
Do you ever go on vacation? My first cat, Mittens (back in the 50s), used to disappear every summer for 2 weeks and come home pregnant! She also chased dogs, loved caramels, and fell into the washing machine.

Alison, this is Syrah whispering. You KNOW I have been outside. There was that lady floating in the lake that time. Then, when Clyde visited, he got out, too. We will not be contained if we want something bad enough.
Chablis here. What is this thing you call sharing? It is a foreign concept to me.
I think we are observant and a keen judge of human nature. I hope that didn't sound too conceited!! Barney and Scout, from the Dream Club Mysteries.
Rocco, we have followed your career with interest--you are a rock star in the feline world!! (Actually, in any world). We would love to be interviewed by you and I know our feline pals would love it, too. Barney and Scout from Dream a Little Scream
Oh no! We are all indoor cats, no unwanted pregnancies...Mittens sounds like quite an adventurous cat. Barney and Scout from the Dream Club Mysteries.
Congrats on the new books coming out on Tuesday! Do you kitties ever get to do a book tour? :)
We like to keep our humans on a strict schedule. I try to let them "sleep in" if they've had a late night but Barney is pretty demanding. He will meow and thump bedroom doors if he thinks it's breakfast time! Scout, from the Dream Club.
I, Muffet Cat, do not enjoy car travel. To me, the car equals a trip to the V-E-T. I prefer to stay on solid ground.
Both of our cats prefer the Fish Flavored treats
Show me one cat who does not think he / she has to be front & center (a.k.a. The Star) and I will show you a cat who is probably a stuffed animal. They are all "Prima Donnas" and they know it.
P.S. I love the cat earrings - they are beautiful.
What is your favorite rainy day activity?
Dear Chablis, Syra, Barney & Scout, and Muffet Cat,
Goodness, I tolerate the two rescue dogs my humans took in, but I just nibbled a piece of dog food and wonder why an animal, even a canine one, would gobble down food that had not an iota of fish in it. Muffet Cat, my owner is reading about you and had put the upcoming book on her wish list, even noting that she wishes it were going to be hardcover. My owner loses things often: keys, glasses, pens. Since I tend to enjoy watching her antics, I can sniff out where her items are, then I howl to let her know. She calls me her fuzzy hero then, and she gives me a yummy treat from the pantry. I'd get them myself except I'm all paws. Do any of you have a talent that astounds or baffles your humans?
Oh Muffet Cat, thank you so much for the little intro to the new book! :) I totally loved the first one in the series - was so nice to meet you there!!! :) Can't wait to meet you again :D
Merlot, Syrah, Chablis, and Magpie; Barney and Scout - I have yet to meet your wonderful personas, and will be very soon doing so!!! :)
Shhh.... don't tell the others... You ARE the star!!!!! <3
This question is for Merlot, Syrah, and Chablis. Has there ever been a cat you didn't like? I know you are not fond of Lydia the coroner, and I can't blame you. Cats are often a great judge of character!
I was wondering if you have any dogs you like to tease. My cat Yoshi always liked to get under something or hide in her cat condo and wait for Matti my dog to walk by and jump out at her. In return Mattie would take toy after toy to her and try to get her to play. kphans08@gmail.com
Since I haven't read any of the books yet because there all on my TBR list I'm truly intrigued by all the Q&A. I'm truly excited to read these series and meet all these wonderful felines. If there was a special cat drink out there, what would it be?
I, Muffet Cat, like to curl up in a chair on front of a roaring fire. I prefer not to get my beautiful black and white coat wet, so I wait until the rain stops before I go outside again. I don't know about you, but rain makes me very sleepy.
I, Muffet Cat, love to be watched. I am a very handsome fellow, after all!
Because it's there!
Muffet Cat's ears prick. Salmon? Must put that on the menu.
Hello! I'd like to introduce myself, my name is Paige Nicholas. I am Rosie Nicholas's human. Rosie has the patience of a saint with me and my husband. I was wondering how difficult it was for each of you to "break in" your human(s)? And do you feel you are amply rewarded, or given credit, when helping with a mystery?

What a fun interview. This is a question for Muffet Cat. My cats really enjoy reading book with me. Do you like to read and if yes what is your favorite type of book?
Hello kitties, great interview. I have kitty beds around the house, and sometimes the cats sleep in them, they also like boxes. Where do you like to sleep?

I love cat mysteries and always feel that you can't go wrong picking a mystery with a cat on the cover! And the cat earrings are super adorable!!!
Hi sweet kitties! I was wondering what you like do during your leisure times (when your humans are busy)?
myrifraf(at)gmail(dot)com
What is there to say...cats rule!
Chablis here: I sleep but my brothers, Syrah and Merlot think something out the windows needs constant watching. Who wants to watch bugs when you can sleeo?
Syrah: Boxes are good, but anywhere there's a kitty quilt is the BEST. My mom makes them. She has lots of them all over the place.
Merlot: It is hard getting them to understand who is in charge at first. but my mom and her friends have finally figured out we will do what we must do. That crazy lady Lydia Monk? She just doesn't get it. NOT a cat person. In other words, not too smart.
Chablis: Tuna flavored cat milk, of course.
Syrah says; Yoshi??? That's our favorite dog's name! Yoshi is okay. And by okay I mean he understands who is boss. And it's NOT him.
From Syrah: Thanks for knowing about the crazy lady. Jillian brings cats to stay and we're cool with them AFTER we let them know we're in charge. My sister and brother are sometimes too nice. Merlot had a crush on the latest one--Magpie. She was kinda pretty, I'll admit.
Chablis says WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR??? We are awesome.
Syrah says Jillian has more sense than anyone I know! She's careful like I am. But that doesn't mean we both don't get into some trouble! What's life without a little trouble?
Merlot says I don't understand. Why would I ever want to be a different character? I am perfection. Cats are all perfect and we know it.
Barney and I are fond of cardboard boxes--even though we have cat beds scattered all around the house. Yeah, crazy, I know!! Ali and Taylor buy these frou-frou little beds and then their feelings get hurt when we don't use them. Of course, the window sill is also a prime sleeping spot. Great for people-watching! Scout from the Dream Club Mysteries
You are so right, Gram!! Barney and Scout.
We agree with Merlot. There is definitely a hierarchy. At the top of the list? Cats, of course!! We outrank humans, dogs, chipmunks and all other creatures. But that's the way it should be...
Barney and Scout
Muffet cat you are my spirit animal!!! Loved your answers.

I enjoy reading about all of you kitties. Do you get tired of all the admiring fans?
Here's a question for all of the cats. Aside from humans, do other species of animals give you assistance, or are they a hindrance?
We told our human we'd go on a book tour, if she made a stop at Disney. Sad to say, the don't allow pets at Disney World unless they are "helper" animals. And let's face it, when's the last time you saw a cat "helping." Hmmm. Unless Barney and I can be certified as "emotional support animals," I guess we will never be allowed to board a plane. Barney and Scout from the Dream Club Mysteries.
