Bling!

by Lorraine Bartlett / Lorna Barrett / L.L. Bartlett

I never gave a flying fig for clothes. (You won't find any designer togs in my closet.) But in the last few years, I've started wearing jewelry. (Again, you won't find anything worth half a mil in my jewelry box.)

I've always been a sucker for rings and wear them on all eight fingers. Currently, the count is 13, and mostly silver with 2 aberrations; of those 13, six were made by my Dad. two silver, four stainless steel. (My buckle ring belonged to my great-grandmother.)

Lately, I've been buying bracelets. Usually I get them at yard sales, but Ive bought a few from the gift shop of a fantastic independent hotel that has a marvelous restaurant. The most I've paid for a bracelet was $16--and was extremely upset when my wrist turned green!

Mr. L bought these pretty bangles and gave them to me for my last birthday.  He found them in the Smithsonian catalog. Aren't they pretty?

Last summer, I bought a bunch of necklaces; beads, mostly. Red, blue, purple, black. A few years back, Ellery gave me a gorgeous necklace of jet beads. It's one of my favorites. Another favorite is a heart-shaped pendant Mr. L gave me for Christmas. It's made of silver and broken china.  (You can wear it as a pin, too.)

What kind of bling do you like to wear?

Love jewelry! Costume mostly but not the stuff you pick up at The mall. I love finds from the teens to 50's ! They are unique and really lovely. Daughter loves them too. They were made so well back then.

I love jewelry. I have a TON of it, but I don't wear much of it on a regular basis. I always wear earrings, usually a simple pair of studs or small hoops. I love long necklaces, but I usually wear them only when I'm going out or doing something special.

Now that I'm thinking about it...I have too much jewelry to not wear on a regular basis! I really need to pull some of it out and incorporate it into my daily wardrobe.

I love rings but can't seem to get used to them on my fingers other than ring fingers. I wear my engagement ring ,which I had reset in a plain gold band. I wear that every day. I sometimes wear my mothers engagement ring and her family ring. I wear my anniversary once in a while. I also have my aunts rings, no diamonds. She had a few rings with good stones but my favorite of her's, is one I had the stone taken out of and put my birthstone (garnet) in it. It's a square ring and I wear that quite a bit. Almost always wear a necklace. I tend to wear the same earrings all the time and I have so many more that I don't wear. I like bracelets but forget to put them on. I'll look up the Smithonion ones. I really like them.

I always wear my Irish Claddagh ring. I chose one of those instead of a traditional wedding ring. I also wear one of my many assorted necklaces. Bracelets I have a hard time with as I have very skinny wrists and it's hard to find one that fits without being way too big.

I love earrings! Don't usually wear any other jewelry except for my watch but have to have earrings in when I leave the house. I usually buy a new pair when I take a trip so I have some from Kenya, Greece, Vancouver Island, Scotland, and many other places. I even bought a Donna Karan set in Filene's Basement in Boston for $9.00. My sister often gets me earrings as gifts, and a friend for whom I pick up mail and paper when she's out of town also gets them for me. As well as being pretty, the earrings remind me of places I've been. Cordella

I have a couple of really nice pieces of jewelry, but most of it is of the "costume" variety, too. But doesn't it make you feel pretty to wear it?

That's the way I feel, too. I used to wear more necklaces when I had a "day job" bot got out of the habit. Now when Mr. L takes me to lunch, I make sure I have on some kind of "bling."

I often "rescue" vintage jewelry at yard sales. Not that I will wear it, but until I can find it a happy home.

I still have the very first pair of silver hoop earrings I ever bought, the same day I got my ears pierced. They aren't worth anything (I think I paid about $10 for them), but they're still my favorites.

I love those Smithsonian bracelets. You can mix and match--wear one, or all of them! I like that they are hinged, too.

Earrings are it for me these days. In years past I enjoyed wearing rings, bracelets and necklaces; but I have gotten out of the habit. I still have a few of my favorite pieces, but I donated most of my collection to an annual jewelry sale to benefit The Animal Proctection Foundation (my local shelter.)
But I never leave home with out my earrings and I have collected some great holiday earings to wear during the corresponding holiday season. My favorites are my Halloween earrings.
And I recently picked up some cute Nancy Drew earings; they feature a little book cover and cat charm!

I love earrings. My daughter does too. We buy earrings when we travel. My husband gives us new earring on just about every special occasion or holiday of the year.

The name of my publishing company is Polaris Press (for the North Star), so I'm a sucker for star earrings. I always seem to lose ONE of them, though. I got a pair for Christmas and haven't worn them yet. I know what I can wear today! Thanks for reminding me.

Wish Mr. L would do that for me. (I may just have to HINT broadly.)

I like it all! Many moons ago dh was a lapidary (stone cutter) & silversmith, so I am the lucky recipient of several pieces of his work. Unfortunately nowadays I only wear jewelry when going out, but I feel naked without earrings! And that bucket ring is just gorgeous!
