Ellery's Mystery Cozy Contest

Hosted By Ellery Adams

It's the first of the month! Time for me to give away a $10 card to the bookstore of your choice.

This is how it works: I post a few lines from a cozy mystery. You post the title and author in the comment section. Then, I'll draw a random name from the winning guesses and post that person's name on this page and on Facebook by 10 p.m. on October 2nd.

Okay, here we go! Here are the lines from this month's mystery cozy:

"People in Pecan Springs just plain don't like witches. Especially these days, what with the grand jury investigatin' the old Ellis case and diggin' up poor old Leota."

Ellery's helpful hint - This mystery was published around 20 years ago, but it's still a perfect Halloween read!

I think Susan Wittig Albert wrote the Pecan Springs mysteries. Would this be from "The Cat's Claw?

I know it's Susan Wittig Albert because of Pecan Springs and I will guess Witches' Bane. It's been a long time since I read these books.

Witches Bane by Susan Wittig Albert, published in 1994, the second China Bayles mystery. I loved this series, but got out of reading it. I'll have to catch up.

O yes, my very first cozy mystery series! Susan Wittig Albert, Witches Bane. I still love the series. Her 20's series Darling Dahlia's is also very good.

I know it's Susan Wittig Albert because of Pecan Springs. My first China Bayles book was Witches Bane, so I'm going to guess that.

It is from one of the terrific books in the China Bayles series by Susan Wittig Albert. I read Witches' Bane so long ago, I forgot the plot. I have the latest book, Death Comes Quickly on my Kindle, but have not read it yet. So I will go with Death Comes Quickly.

I have to go with Witches Bane although she had so many great ones in the series. Hard to remember as I read way to many mysteries, so much so my husbands starting to check his food. :)
