Social Media and me, er ... us!

by Lorraine Bartlett / Lorna Barrett / L.L. Bartlett

A couple of weeks ago, Leann suggested that we might want to try out Tumblr.  My reaction was, "Yeah, great. Let's do it.  ... Uh, what is it?"

According to Wikipedia, "Tumblr is a microblogging platform and social networking website. The service allows users to post multimedia and other content to a short-form blog. Users can follow other users' blogs, as well as make their blogs private. Much of the website's features are accessed from the "dashboard" interface, where the option to post content and posts of followed blogs appear."

Leann's mentioned her son-in-law's twice-monthly podcast, Welcome to Night Vale. She told me how Tumblr helped find them an audience.

Well, I figured ... why not try it!

So, not only are Leann and I up there, but so are the Chicks and Ellery, too.

Great.  Wonderful.  Now what do we do?

Well, we're posting.  Why do we want to use Tumblr?  A lot of people don't like Facebook.  Tumblr is another way we can communicate with our readers.  The problem is ... how do we find our readers on Tumblr?

Well, I guess that's what my post today is all about.  Why not come over and take a look at our mini blogs and see what you think.  I'll give you the links again ... just click on our names and take a look.  Maybe you'd like to join in the fun.  We'll be happy to follow you, too!

I have tried to use tumblr a couple of times but I just can't figure it out...I don't know what it is. I will have to sit down and try to figure out how to use it.
Are any of you ladies on instagram? I know that is for photos, but that's how I follow a lot of my favorite bloggers.

If you can help me figure out Instagram, that would be great. Can you use it from the computer or is it all smartphone based? I put up a couple pics when I downloaded the app on my iphone and then promptly forgot how I did it. aacckkk!! It sucks getting old! (And isn't it funny that I find tumblr. easy to navigate. Our brains are all hooked up differently!)

I'm on Tumblr, too ... just starting to post. It's like having a mini blog, but featuring mostly pictures. Now to find MY readers. (I've already followed you guys.)

Lorraine, you've inspired me to sign up for Tumblr! I don't want to miss out on the fun...

I don't have a smart phone, and don't know how to use the camera on my mini iPad, so I haven't signed up for Instagram. I thought Tumblr was mainly used for porn! Guess not, or not anymore, lol! No, I don't have a Tumblr account either.

Haha! Yes they sure are hooked up differently, that's for sure.
Personally, I use instagram only on my smartphone (I have an android), but you can use it from your computer. I'm not sure how exactly you use it on your computer, but on your phone you just click the little photo icon that shows up on the bottom when you open the app, then pick your photo, pick your "filter" from the choices they give you, then post! You can link the photos to your facebook account so they post there as well (just click the little facebook icon before you post. It will prompt you to login to facebook, unless you're already logged in, and the photo will post there as well)
