Another Month of RENT!

by Leann

For those of you who follow this blog, you know we have been building a home on the lake for a looooong time. To say I am frustrated by the delays is an understatement. Are we closer? Yes! Will it be a June move in? I don't know. I am not good at the "I don't know" part. Nothing makes me more anxious.

I decided to share some "happy pics" of the things we have done since I last shared photos. I had them paint our front door red. Red is my favorite color and the entry door makes a statement. "Enter here. We are not afraid to be bold."

Today, as the rain begins and I worry again about what can be done to get that driveway concrete poured next week, I am still excited about our new home. We designed every inch. We picked out every fixture. We will have a view that will calm and cheer us.

Here's the stove and hood vent we chose and you can see my wonderful subway tile, too.
Here's one of my very favorite light fixtures. There are three of these over the island and they have old fashioned bubble glass and "Edison" bulbs. You can see my pretty corner cabinet in the background.
This is the job they did last week. Finally a front sidewalk! Now if the rain would just hold off and we can get a driveway we will be very very close!

I can't wait to share the news of the move-in date. Soon!

It definitely is gorgeous, but how frustrating for you! I hope the weather cooperates and that everything is finished so you can move in as soon as possible.

It looks wonderful...I'd KILL to cook on that stove just once!! I'm actually a great cook, so I might resort to bribery instead..lol...I know you are anxious to get in there and just start LIVING in it...and I sure hope you are doing that if not by the end of June by the 4th of July at least! Good luck!!

Thanks Malka! I consider it my home already!

Thanks. This has been a long process--far longer than I ever thought. It took a long time to "de-clutter" our last house and then "touch it up" to sell it. It really looked great and then moving into a 1963 house that hasn't ever been renovated ... well, you understand! I want out of here!

Thanks Dru!

Thanks Laine. I cannot wait to cook again. In this 50 year old rent house kitchen with original stove and oven, well ... not much cooking happening.

I LOVE what you have done so far, Leann. And the red door is inspired, I love it. Can't wait till you move in and we will throw a "virtual house party" for you! Fingers crossed the rain holds off.

Thanks Mary. That door picture was only the first coat of paint, btw. And there are side lights, too. I drive up and just smile when I see that door!

I have a red door, too. Love it! (And didn't think I would. Mr. L picked the color.) My mother wants a purple door. So, next week (this week is impossible), I'm going to paint it for her.

Everything is BEAUTIFUL. The end is close and you will be in there soon. Just think of all the fun you will have placing your furniture. We want pictures of the whole place when you are in..I was just thinking about you yesterday and wondering how it was going. Good luck with the weather so you can get everything done this week.

Your mom is going to LOVE that purple door! The people in the neighborhood who have stopped by all comment on how much they love our red door! :-)

Thanks Diane! Oh, there WILL be pictures. So many pictures!

Waiting is probably even harder now that you are "this close", because you know the end is near (or, rather, the beginning). It will probably be even sweeter because you had to stay so long in the rental. The new place will feel like you are moving into a palace. And because you picked everything yourself, it will feel comfortable right away.

Thanks Lynda. It already feels like home. When I go over there, I make the turn down our street and feel my shoulders relax. It has just been about 2 months too long.

Thanks MJ. I see people on HGTV complaining about 2-6 week renovation and how inconvenient it is and I just have to shake my head! I haven't seen my socks for 2 years!! :-)
