I'm plussed!

by Lorraine Bartlett / Lorna Barrett / L.L. Bartlett

A while back, on my own blog (Dazed and Confused) I wrote a rant about Facebook.  How they suppress views of your posts, holding them for ransom if you don't pay for views.  (Yes, they really do that.)

Obviously, I'm not going to stop using Facebook. It's still the online best way to connect with readers and stay in touch with friends. But I've also started to use Google+.

As far as I can see, Google+ is pretty much a clone of Facebook, without all the annoying ads and constant improvements that always infuriate its users.  It's cleaner looking, it's easy to use, and it's sure not as popular, but I like it. It doesn't feel like Big Brother is watching (as much ... after all it IS Google).

I read recently where Google is very disappointed that it hasn't taken off, replacing Facebook, and they don't know what to do with it.  They've slashed the support staff and I guess they're just going to let it sit there.

Wouldn't you know I'd find something I like when it could go down the toilet at any time.

They have a great thing called Google Hangouts, where you can have a free video call with a bunch of friends or family.  The video is a little strange.  There's a time delay, which kind of makes it look like your friends are in space, but the talking part is great. I've had several business meetings via Google Hangouts and I like it better than Skype.

If you're on Google+, I'd love it if you'd join my circles.  You can find me by clicking on the following Links:

Hey, The Cozy Chicks are there, too!

Have you tried Google+?

If I can figure out how to find it, I will give it a look see...I am ticked at FB too..just as a "regular" person, I cannot see what I want..I have to always go searching for my authors, etc..and it is a real pain.

I hope they don't get rid of Google+! It's one of my favorite ways to keep in contact with family and friends, and authors and artists I follow (you included!). Only a handful of my friends have it though...I keep trying to convince them to sign up.
I am a big Google fan though...I love the drive. I love that I can just drag documents, photos and lists to the drive and they are always there. Very handy for storage.

I've never tried Google+. I may look into it, only for you. :)

I'm still trying to figure out how to use Google+. On Facebook I set up groups for friends, family, writers, and other categories so I can more easily keep up with everyone. The feed is constantly moving along at a rather fast clip, so it's easy to miss things from folks I care about. I try to click "like" on posts by the authors and writing groups I follow and that keeps most of you showing up in my feed most of the time. I added you to my Google+ writing group. Looking forward as always to your posts.

It's very easy to do in Google+ -- you create circles of friends, family, etc. This way you can just send pictures to one circle of friends and not everyone who you've friended. You can include them in several circles, too. I like it. I've never been able to figure out how to use a similar feature on FB.

If you have a Google account (Like G mail), you are all set to get a google account. When you sign in, you'll see there's a plus next to your name (mine is +Lorraine) -- just click that and it takes you to Google+. Good luck! (See you there!)

Personally, I don't like Google+ any more than I do FB, which is not at all. I'm getting tired of both entities trying to take over the internet. Too many sites no longer allow comments or participation unless you subscribe to one or the other. I've also noticed a lot of blogs that ONLY allow comments from G+ or FB users. It makes me wonder if they realize how many potential contacts they are missing out on.

I was so glad you told me about Google+, Lorraine and I signed up! I haven't tried the "Hangouts" yet, but it sounds interesting. I also need to learn more about the Communities on Google+. I tried to leave a comment on someone's Google+ page, but is message came up saying I needed to be a member of the "community" in order to leave a comment. Hmmm. There's a lot to learn!

I am now following, although I admit I am not there as often as FB. If more of my friends begin to use G+ I am sure I will be there more regularly.
For now I do use it to like blog posts and share good news.
I have enjoyed a HangOut or two.

The communities are the same as Facebook's closed groups. I haven't been turned down when I tried to join. It usually takes a few hours to a day to be approved. Give it/them a try!

I recently signed up for Google + but haven't done anything with it. I'm afraid of social media overload!
