Were There 'Signs'?

by Deb Baker/Hannah Reed

These last days of February have ushered in my sun sign – Pisces. I haven’t paid much attention to the Zodiac, other than the occasional horoscope, since I was in my 20s.

But this time around, in 2014, for some weird reason, when the path of the sun crossed into my sign, I went back and re-read the list of personality traits using www.astronomy.com – yup, that’s me. Artistic (check) left-handed (check, actually, I just threw that in), an emotional sponge (oh, yeah)… and on and on. One of my very favorite colors is even cool water blue for the fish in water that my sign represents!

My personality matches my sign so perfectly, it’s almost scary. And believable.

All this got me thinking...

As those who have read my posts for a while know, I divorced last March. We've managed to remain friends. Actually, we are better friends than we were mates. So my thought is - Did the incompatibility of our signs have anything to do with our split? He fits his – Sagittarius – just as well as I fit mine. And according to the experts, that’s not a good combination for Pisces. Or for Sagittarius.

I’m also supposed to stay away from Gemini and Aries, as our personalities clash. But another Pisces would work. So would a Cancer or Scorpio. I’ve read about them and like what I see.

I can't believe my mind is going here! Is there some truth to this sign business? What do you think?

I know the zodiac has been around for centuries, but I do not know when the "words" began, describing the different signs. I know, people observe others, and perhaps somewhere centuries back, someone began writing down those observations....I sort of believe in it...I am a Capricorn...married to a Gemini...bad combo! But the opposites in us, work to our advantage-we keep each other on an even keel....I keep us organized and on track, he keeps me open minded and thinking outside the box...I keep schedules, he is a free wheeler.....there are times that I could wring his neck..there are times he would like me to let go of my "lists".....after 30 yrs, we seem to have found a rhythm to it all.....Our son is THE worse sign for me....but perfect for hubby....so you can imagine the conflicts at times there......
You know...divorce has always seemed like a living death, to me...you can never bury and "close" the situation..I am glad you are still friends with your ex....that does'nt always happen, but the pain of the divorce..will take time to heal..even tho you may think you are happier,,,which you most likely are, the "event", is still there...I wish you well on that healing..I have been reading you, and seeing you heal, all this year....
You are a sweetie!

SueAnn, your post is precious to me. And yes, I AM still going through pain/heal in spite of our 'good' parting. It's amazing how right on the zodiac signs are. I'm glad you and your husband worked out your differences:)

Speaking as another left-handed and spongy Pisces, I loved your post, Deb. Everyone in my family matches up with the description of the sign, even the ones who don't believe in all that.

Hope you saw lots of water on your vacation.

Hugs.

MJ

Yes, I find some reality in zodiac designations. I'm a Taurus -- stubborn and love jewelry, even have the cowlick in the center of my forehead (like a bull).
Seriously, I've been toiling away at two books and I spent time figuring out characters' birth dates as they related to their horoscopes, to make it all make sense with their personalities. If I went to all that trouble, I suspect I believe there's something to it!

I better watch that my characters act in their proper signs. Haha.

As I do have a twin sister, and my mother's birthday is only two days later, I can't believe in this. We are so different, have absolutely nothing in common. But I still used to read the horoscope in the tv guide when I was subscribed to it.
