Christmas Wrapping ...

by Lorraine Bartlett / Lorna Barrett / L.L. Bartlett

(Here, listen to this music video while you read my blog post.)

I am into wrapping. I love it. I always have. When I was a kid, my mother used to wrap my presents in brown paper, and then let me wrap them in  holiday paper. Ribbons were never part of the deal.  (Cats who tried to eat them put the kabash on that.)

Just part of the stash.
As someone who worked in retail for 12 years, I hate paying full-price for anything. I hit the after-Christmas sales, and also stock up on stuff at yard sales. Consequently I have tons of rolls of wrapping paper, and enough curly ribbon (in many colors) to reach to the moon and back several times.
I even collect vintage wrapping paper. I take it out every holiday season, try to think what gift is worthy, and usually put it back in the box.  I mean, come on...this stuff is RARE. Even gifts for me are not good enough for this trove.   : )

So, I'm looking forward to the weekend when I will haul out all the presents I've been hiding away for the past couple of months and have a wrapathon.

I used to do this while watching It's A Wonderful Life, but my VHS machine died and I don't yet have it on DVD.  (I think I'll get the colorized version...why not?  I know my pal (and major movie buff) Jeff Cohen would probably give me a million reasons WHY!  BTW, have you read his Comedy Tonight mysteries?  Well, why not?  (He's also known as E.J. Copperman.)

Anyway, look out Santa, here comes the tape, the paper, and the tags.

Have you wrapped all your gifts yet?

Thanks for the chuckle, Lorraine! Well worth reading as always. And no, I haven't wrapped my gifts yet. I was hoping for self-wrapping gifts this year, but maybe I can talk you into it. What? Oh,

First off-colorized?!?!?!? NOOOOOOOOOOOO! Colorization is a travesty-don't do it! As for wrapping. I'm a lousy wrapper, but I wrap, generally without ribbons and bows. This year there will be some gift bags and decorated boxes that don't require wrap. Most of my wrapping is done as I have to mail most of them-I have a little more wrapping to do for my folks and one local friend.

As for wrapping paper-one year after Christmas I was buying wrap for about a dime...needless to say I didn't have to buy wrapping paper for years! (literally, years!)

Merry Christmas.

Sure, I'll wrap your presents, MJ. Come on over to my house and we'll have cocoa and cookies. (Or I could break out the wine and chocolate.)

I hate "paying retail" too! (I thought it was because I'm from New York). Love the beautiful, festive paper. And really love the idea of vintage paper. I wonder if people still do decoupage? Maybe vintage paper could be used to make something fabulous (besides wrapping a present, I mean.)
