The Geek In Me

By Heather

There are a few things that totally geek me out. And most of them revolve around office supplies. I can spend hours in a supply store. Hours. I never minded school shopping for the kids, and when I need printer paper or ink, I’m more than happy to toddle off to the store to buy some. And ten other things. Ooh, funky paperclips. Notebooks galore. And heaven help me, the pens. Oh, the pens.

But even more than pens (I know this is going to be hard to believe), I geek out over day planners. That’s right. I live and breathe by my planner. I’m still old-school, so I use a paper planner, not an electronic one. It’s the biggest tool that keeps my days organized and therefore keeps me sane (I'm all for sanity these days).

Because I use an academic day planner (July-July), this is the season for me to pick out a new one at my local Staples. Oh, the choices. Sometimes it comes down to eenie meenie miny moe to choose one, but this year I went by the inside pages. They have adorable flowers on them.

This is the outside. Isn’t it cute (you can't tell by the pic, but the purple flowers are iridescent)?

What do you geek out over?

My husband used to come with me when I had to "Pop on over to Staples, just to pick up a few things" ... not any more. PENS, NOTEBOOKS, STICKY NOTES, ... the list goes on and on and on, but yeah, pens are a BIG one, and heaven forbid he steals one of my 1,498,598,958 pens and doesn't return it! :)

I have so many notebooks it's ridiculous. All shapes and sizes and each one has to be used for just the right thing. You can NOT just grab a notebook off my shelf if you need a piece of paper. No, I have paper for that. Notebooks are sacred.

Your planner is really cute!

LOL on the pen stealing. I'm with you on that...yet I will pilfer pens from Mr. W all the time. As if my collection isn't big enough. LOL!

I can get lost for hours in Office Max or Staples. Even Big Lots. Love the Day Planner.

I have a weakness for notebooks, too. I use one for every book I write and they're starting to pile up! Hard to get rid of them as well. I'll be on a special episode of hoarders soon, I know it.

Thanks, Melissa! We should start a office supply fan club. :)

Time flies by in those stores. I'm not sure what's being piped through the vents in there but it's potent. For instance, I do not need 100 cute postcards with dandelions printed on them yet I HAD TO HAVE THEM. Still, I keep going back...

Where did you find that notebook? It's so cute. I want one.

Bev, it's a day-planner (calendar). I got it at Staples. They have lots of cute options.

I love Office Supplies. I did not like school. But loved the new things in the fall.

Definitely office supplies. And quilting stuff - fabric, notions, patterns, pretty much anything to do with quilting, I'll make an excuse to "stop in" the store :)

Mary Ann, school supply shopping was definitely the best part of school.

Oh, I hear you, Christina. Notions are wonderful. I'm also a little nutso in the scrapbooking aisle at Michaels even though I haven't scrapbooked in years. I might need an intervention soon.
