I'm in Love with Castle

by Deb Baker/Hannah Reed

Look at that face. How could I not? Castle is in its fourth season and I'm hanging on every single episode. If you aren't familiar with the series, Richard Castle is a famous mystery author who shadows a female detective for plot material. He also is secretly (not so secretly to viewers) in love with Beckett (the detective). To give him more depth, he's going through those difficult teenage years with his daughter and his mother lives with them.

I started thinking of qualities in men, those most important to me. In my imagination, Castle is the perfect man, the kind most of us dream about.

What makes him lovable in my starry eyes? He's charming (with those little boy looks), funny, loyal to a fault (I'm not sure Beckett deserves his ultra-focused attention), cool, calm, honest, respectful, smart, he isn't afraid to reveal his feminine side, and he's good to his mom and daughter.

Yup, that's about it. Just love the guy. Check him out on Monday nights on ABC.
And why not try one of his books. Heat Rises is the latest in his Nikki Heat suspense thrillers. (Yes there really are books authored by Castle.)

Do you watch Castle? Do you agree with my assessment? Who's your favorite dream man?

Yep, I love Castle too. Of course I first fell for him when his name was Dr. Jim Pomatter and he was Keri Russell's obstetrician in "Waitress." But still...

Love Castle! He's smart, charming, witty, sensitive, trustworthy....just about the perfect man. Plus, he really knows how to make Mondays fun!

I really enjoy the series, but I'm way behind. I work Evening Shift-so I can't see the show when it airs. I have the first 2 seasons on DVD and need to get the 3rd-and 4th when it comes out. My folks have borrowed the series and enjoy it too. As for Castle himself...I think he's great, but maybe too great for me. Unfortunately I fall for the guys like Eric Northman (True Blood-I'm behind in that series too-don't get HBO!).

Eric is so hot! I like them good and bad!

I totally agree. Love Castle -- the character & the series, esp. now that it seems back on track. Sexy & smart is what I enjoy watching.
Also think the whole Castle concept is great marketing all around!

Totally agree. I love Castle, too!

Me too! I like that he's goofy, that he's a wonderful dad and son, that he may come up with hilarious plots for any murder case but he really cares about the victims. And he's so cute. Even my husband likes him because he's funny.

Love this show!!!! This is one of the few shows my husband and I watch together. Who do you think is the real author behind the books?

I love Nathan Fillion on Castle, first fell for him on scifi series Firefly. Every once in a while, the Castle writers refer to something from Firefly, such as the time Castle dressed up as a space cowboy for Halloween.

As to the books "authored" by Castle, I asked Michael Connolly at Bouchercon who actually wrote them. His reply was "someone on the show." He did autograph the book for me. So, who knows?

I have never seen Castle, so no idea if I would like it.

My niece introduced me to the show -- and she's a very reliable source. I do love it!

I sure do agree, but who knew the books were real? Thanks so much for the wonderful revelation! Pinkim from

Monday nights are always fun when Castle comes on. My husband is a bit jealous of him so I send him to the other room so I can watch it in piece. I like the way the stories go from comedy to drama and back again. I first saw him in Blast From The Past. But Mark Harmon as Gibbs wins my favorite dream man vote.

I love Castle too. I love the elegant Manhattan life he leads which is the opposite of mine. His daughter is adorable too. The best part for me is that he respects and feel great affection for all of the women on the show, including his glamorous Mom.

Having lots of fun reading the comments and I'd love to know who is really writing the series. It's always at the top of the NYT bestsellers list so they have to be good. I'm going to try one.

Count me in as a big fan of Nathan Fillion!! I'm not a Twitter(er) but his tweets are hysterical! I did read the first book and whoever is writing them really does an excellent job of using "Castle's" voice. If you get the chance watch Firefly...he is equally charming on that show.

Oh my lord, I adore "Ricky" (I call him Ricky, we're just that close! I wish!!) As to who writes the "Castle" books, I have seen that someone thinks Dan Brown (Angels and Demons, The DaVinci Code) is the writer - WRONG! I have an idea who it is, but I told "Ricky" I'd kept it mum! :P

Love Castle, and this week's "Elvis" bit had me rolling with laughter.

apd- I shouldn't show you the picture of him and my daughter then, right??? LOL It's my screen saver. You know, because I love my daughter sooo much, I just have to have her picture up all the time at work.

I have loved Nathan Fillion since Buffy the Vampire Slayer days. Then he shined (shone?)on Firefly and now on Castle...Monday nights are just so swell now.

As for my favorite dream man...there are a few on my list. Most only make sense to me, but I love smiling eyes and wicked humor...therefore Nathan Fillion fits the bill.
Lyle Lovett
Antonio Banderas
Jack Black
Matthew McConaughey

I know there are others, just can't put thoughts together as I gaze into Castle's eyes to the right....
