A Dangerous Time Of Year To Shop . . .

by Lorna Barrett / Lorraine Bartlett / L.L. Bartlett

Yesterday I went to my local Wegmans grocery store and was visually assaulted with the incredible amount of stuff there is to satisfy the holiday taste buds.  Stuff you ONLY see this time of year.

Down every single aisle there was something that made me salivate like Pavlov's dog.

OMG!!!

The cakes.

The cookies.

The candy.  (Like Terry's chocolate oranges.)

The cheese logs.

The snowflake-shaped crackers.

The holiday Coke.

And there were toys, and Christmas CDs, and Christmas jewelery (oops, I kinda already got suckered into two impulse buys in that aisle--a very cute pin and a necklace and earring set), stocking stuffers (like the incredibly BEAUTIFUL blank journals), and wrapping paper, and bows, and ornaments, and plants, and egg nog, and holiday chocolate-covered pretzel rods with red-and-green jimmies . . .  the list goes on and on (and on and on).

I was there with Mr. L, who hates to shop and especially hates to shop at Christmastime.

Um . . . I may have to go back on my own just to take it all in.

Do you end up buying a lot of stuff just because it's only around for a limited time?

=============

My latest Jeff Resnick story is now available.  It's called When The Spirit Moves You. It's available on all e book formats for only 99¢.  You can find out more about it by clicking this link!

I bought some chocolate penguins the other day. They cost twice as much as normal chocolate and probably taste the same. But I got sucked in by the cute packaging.

Come and live in England, we have Terrys chocolate oranges all year round.

I admit I do this. I may see something that is 'limited' and looks cute, good or nice and buy it.

The next question should be, what do you do with this 'limited' stuff? Do you actually use it, give it away, forget about it?....

For the most part, if it is food I use it. If it is a special soap or spray .. most of the time I use some and throw the rest away.

And one last question... how much money have you wasted on the 'limited' items?

I can say I wasted some money but I have also used much of it to my advantage.

I too wandered around Wegman's the other day looking at the holiday goodies. I almost picked up the box of Jingles, but decided to wait til after Thanksgiving! I buy limited edition and special holiday stuff as well. I decided to wait on the Cranberry Ginger Ale as well as the Jingles...but I did get the Wegman's Holiday tote bag!

I love going into stores during Christmas time. It's fun seeing the pretty colors, gifts and candy.

I have a son-in-law who is a big sucker...er enthusiast, for holiday items. He drove out of state to buy little bottles of Christmas Coca Cola when he couldn't find it here in Michigan. I used to be big on holiday items, but not so much anymore. I will buy special items for my kids if I see them - orange, chocolate balls for my son if I can find them.
I bought the Jeff Resnick story yesterday, then couldn't find it on my Nook. Problem solved kind of, just moments ago. I say kind of because a quarter of the books I own don't show up in my online list. It is on my Nook, though. I am saving When the Spirit Moves You for tonight when I can savor it! Thanks so much for writing it.

I know I always try to get at least one new Christmas CD to add to our collection. And I add to the tree and house decorations at the local artists' co-op.

I'm trying to think what else I get....Ooooooo...the eggnog that my dairy has each year. And I collect that year's bottle for decoration, too. They have cinnamon eggnog to add to the selection, too. YUM!

I went to the Christmas Tree Shoppe yesterday and bought some cute candy cane and tree looking mugs. I am going to fill them with limited xmas M&M's and wrap them in cellophane. These will be placed at everyones place setting for the Xmas dinner this year.

If you saw my earlier post, I am making it a point to make use of what I buy this year.

I do love the special treats you can buy now. Marzepain and "pepernoten", chocolates and other candies. Never go shopping for groceries when you are feeling peckish!
