Christmas CD Wishlist

by Deb Baker/Hannah Reed

My Christmas CDs are out of storage! I’m sorting through them, picking out my favorites. I guess I’m old fashioned, haven’t moved to MP3 downloads. A few of the ones I like the most are:

Alan Jackson – Let It Be Christmas
Ally McBeal – Ally McBeal: A Very Ally Christmas
Diane Krall – Christmas Songs
Josh Groban – Noel

I have lots more than that – Celtic, Jazz, the Chipmunks….

This year I’m going to add one new CD to the mix, but I’m torn between several. Here's my wishlist:

Michael Buble – Christmas  - #1 in the Amazon store - he sings Cry Me A River, but can he top Robert Downey, Jr’s anguished rendition on the Ally CD?

M. Ward - A Very She & Him Christmas - the cover calls to me (you can buy individual downloads for 99 cents each).

Carole King – A Holiday Carole - I loved Tapestry!

What a tough decision. I might have to add all three.
I have so many questions for you:
  • What are your favorites?
  • Have you listened to the three on my wish list and can you recommend?
  • Do you do MP3 downloads and if so, what do you think?

I love Christmas music, but though I too have hauled out all of my CDs and cassettes, I have not yet listened to any. Won't until the week of Thanksgiving, so next week...they're fair game. *G*

One of my "new" favorites is a CD received last Christmas, Andrea Bocelli's "My Christmas." It's one I can listen to on repeat for hours.

Other faves include "When My Heart Finds Christmas" by Harry Connick Jr., "The Voice of Christmas" by Bing Crosby (a 2-disc compilation), and Mannheim Steamroller, esp the first two discs. Oh, and Trans-Siberian Orchestra (who are awesome in concert), and for fun--Jimmy Buffett's "Christmas Island."

Of the three you mention, I have only previewd a few selections of the Buble at youtube and, for the most part, liked what I heard. I'll definitely have to check out the Carole King.

I never thought of previews on youtube! I'll have to check them out. And now my wishlist has grown even bigger. The only one on your list I'm familiar with is Mannheim. Have all of their work and love it.

I am not as into Christmas music as my husband is but he is slowly converting me! But there is one CD that I am for sure getting this year and it's Jack Johnson's new CD. It's him and his artists from Brushfire Records. The CD is This Warm December: A Brushfire Holiday Vol. 2 (one is amazing). The think I always love about Jack's music is how it calms me down. I need a little calm among all the Christmas excitement!!

My favorites are Dean Martin, Bing, Luther Vandross, and Neil Diamond.

Also have a funny "Cat's Meow" cd.

Deb: I found the Michael Buble Christmas songs on youtube quite by accident, when I was searching for a wintery song during last week's snowstorm. After reading Brittney's suggestion of jack Johnson, I tried to find him on youtube today, but no luck. Will have to search them for Carole King. ;)

I am so glad I tuned in today. I am definitely getting A Very She and Him Christmas. I love Zooey Deschanel's voice.

Might get Michael Buble's. He's a cool singer.

I add to the Christmas CD collection each year. I have a variety: Cajun Christmas, Elvis, Harry Connick Jr, Leon Redbone, Brian Setzer (lead singer of Stray Cats), Frank Sinatra....

I don't have very much Christmas music. It's about time I got something new. I've always enjoyed Martina McBride's Christmas CD. She has such a beautiful voice.
