Books, Resurrected

They're the worst six words an author can hear from an agent: "Your Series Is Not Being Renewed."

What does that mean? It means the three books you wrote didn't wow enough buyers. Your dreams of making bestseller lists fell short and the stories you'd planned for Book 4 will have no audience.

Tragic.

And then you have to answer all the emails asking, "When is Book 4 coming out? I can't wait to read it!"

Heartbreaking.

Or so it used to be.

My first three books revolved around the world of antiques and collectibles. The topic has always been a passion of mine and it made sense that I would begin my career writing about something I knew and loved. So I invented Molly Appleby, a single, pleasantly plump, middle school teacher-turned reporter and set her loose on the world. She wrote articles for Collector's Weekly, ate way too much junk food, hung out with her mom and her two cats, and developed a serious crush on a hunky coworker. She also stumbled on dead bodies and priceless valuables. I had a ball writing them.

But the series was canceled and until recently, I thought it was dead in the water. But ebooks give our canceled series second lives. Sure, we might only sell 5000 copies instead of the 20,000 the publisher was hoping for, but we'll take it.

Heck, the books might catch fire and sell 50,000 copies! You never know.

So I jumped into the epub pool this month and edited, polished, and republished my Molly Appleby books. And now, finally, I can work on Book 4, and tell the
readers what happens between Molly and her man.

Do you have an ereader? If so, I'm offering A Killer Collection at 99 cents for a few weeks (on all types of readers). The other books, A Fatal Appraisal and A Deadly Dealer, are priced at a reasonable $3.99.

I hope you'll give Molly a try!

On my way to buy it now! I just got a Kindle and love the fact that there are deals like this to give readers a chance to try a new author... and your reasonable price is more than reasonable as well!

Already have all three in paperback and A Killer Collection on Kindle. Will check out the other's on Kindle as well. Great books.

I would also love to see more of the Hope Street Church mysteries. Have all 3 of those in both paperback and Kindle.

I also have both of the Books by the Bay mysteries in both paperback & Kindle (hmmm...I'm seeing a pattern here) and I'm looking forward to the next one.

Don't yet have all the Supper Club mysteries, but I'm working on them.

Obviously I love all your books, so keep 'em coming!!

Have these in paperback and I'm so thrilled to hear this news. I loved Molly and the crew. I've missed her and knowing what happened. Not saying I get too caught up in my series reads but it is like loosing a friend!

Hooray! So happy this series has been resurrected. Congrats!

Yeah! Publishers let great books go out of print before readers can even discover them. Shame on them!

I don't have an ereader yet. It's on my list of would-like-to-haves...

Congrats on your series!

I've been resisting an e-reader since I thought the only possible use for one was that it would be handy to travel with. Having read this post, though, I'm sold. ASAP I am going to buy one.

I love this opportunity to try your series. I just downloaded the first one. I am more apt to try a new series @ .99$ than 7.99 publisher priced. Thanks.

Congrats JB on bringing this series back to the public. I've read the first book and can't wait to read the next two books in this series.

Molly stopped by my reading blog and talked about an average day in her life.

Ooo that is great news! Just publish them yourself, and advertise on some blogs. I like the premise, I have a thing for antiques (perhaps because I like old fashioned furniture and such). Can you point me to an ebookstore that deals with paypal? Which is not Amazon.

I have an ereader and will be adding them to the download list today.

And for those without an ereader- remember, you can dl it to your computer and read it there too, with whatever software they have for your perferred platform. I tend to read some of my Sony dl's on my droid tablet, or just on my droid phone. And I use the Amazon one that way all the time.

and I am so glad the ereaders and digital have made it possible for scenarios like this- authors able to continue a good series that may not have made a big splash.

Another reason I am glad I took the plunge

How cool! I don't have an e-reader yet (need to decide which type to get), but I do think it is time to get one....all the e-pub stuff is pretty exciting.

I am very excited to download your book on my Kindle, but I can't seem to do it. Will Amazon fix this issue soon?
