I was brought back to my teenage years twice this week by the same three-letter word.
Der.

It’s strange that I haven’t heard it – haven’t even thought of it – in years, yet I heard it twice in one week. Maybe it’s making a comeback. If so, I’m going to have to start brushing off other words and phrases I used back then in case they make a comeback, too. Words like “wicked” (this might be a New England thing) or “touched in the head,” “dipstick,” “awesome” (endlessly!), “psych” and “dweeb.”
How about you? Do you remember the lingo of your teen years?

they say history repeats itself...maybe it does even in slang. I sure hope "whatever" NEVER comes back.
LOL, Sue. Did it ever go away?
Um, I still use "der" and "awesome" and just to change it up, "cool". I guess we are defined by the era we were raised in.
I was thinking that as I was hanging laundry outside today- a tye-dyed gauze peasant skirt and a Slash T-shirt.
I really have no desire to grow up.
Ev, I still say awesome and cool, too. Not der for some reason, though I might have to throw it back in just to mix things up!
I TOTALLY DIG the "like, gag me with a spoon!" graphic. It's LIKE TOTALLY RADICAL, DUDE! :)
Thanks for a smile!
How 'bout "Rad", "For sure" & "Gag me with a credit card and put me on layaway"? Hey. I was born in California ;)
LOL, Kristin!
Kristine, I hadn't heard the layaway one before, LOLOL! For sure--definitely!!!
Not necessarily 'teen' years, but when I was growing up as a young'n in the 60s...groovy, hip, cool, nimrod
Later on: hellah cool, awesome, duh, DOH!
A word from my past that my brother and I still use is Dork. We just can't seem to get away from using that.
