My Town

By Deb/Hannah

I live in a little unincorporated town called North Lake. We don't have much - a school (K-8), a gas/convenience store, a post office, a few bars (this is Wisconsin, after all), a cool library that I plopped into my beekeeping stories, and our only claim to fame -

Yes, my town is the home of Shrinky Dinks! For those of you who don't know, Shrinky Dinks came in all kinds of shapes, even cartoon characters. We colored them, then popped them into the oven, where they would shrink down. What fun! Follow this link to shop for them online or to watch a video.

Did you play with Shrinky Dinks?

Living in Holland, I can safely say I never even heard of them! Time for K & B to get abroad perhaps? Children are children, not matter where they live, and if Americans like them, why not European children?

I still have a ton of the Shrinky Dinks I made as a child! I especially loved the one that had the fuzzy parts. I didn't know they were still around! I will havd to follow the link! Thanks!

I haven't thought of Shrinky Dinks in years. Too bad my kids are too old for them. But I am an elementary librarian - I suppose I could get some as research for a potential lesson for the art teacher. Hmm!

I'm with booklady-I haven't thought of Shrinky Dinks in years. My kids played with them. I thought they were sort of silly, but the kids loved them.

I've never heard of Shrinky Dinks, but I was raised in Australia and I don't think we have them there.

What a cute looking town. I love the look of the library :)

I still have a necklace that one of my children made out of them.

I still love Shrinky Dinks. I rubber stamp images on blank plastic, color it in, and shrink. I use the images to decorate handmade cards and gift wrapped packages. You are never too old for Shrinky Dinks!

I LOVED Shrinky Dinks when I was a kid! I can remember tracing the pictures and cutting them out. Darn! I didn't know they still made them or I would've gotten them for my nephews by now. Thank you for posting the link to order them online. I'm definitely bookmarking it.

I think I did a shrinky dink or two when I was younger - I know they were pretty popular back then

I didn't get to play with Shrinky Dinks for some reason. But now I need to get some for my 8 year old. She will love them! Thanks for the reminder.
