Are You Foolin' Around Today?

On April 1, 1996, Taco Bell announced that it had purchased the Liberty Bell and planned to rename it….the Taco Liberty Bell!

As you can imagine, hundreds of angry American citizens began calling their state representatives and the Historic Park where the Liberty Bell was housed, demanding to know how the fast food company could change the name of a national treasure.

Taco Bell waited until the end of the day until it came clean – telling the nation that it had all been a prank in celebration of April Fool’s Day. I wonder what Ben Franklin would have made of the whole ruckus? Personally, I think he would have laughed his spectacles off.

This morning, I told my kids that Spring Break had been canceled because they’d missed too many school days due to snow. I even kept a straight face.

It was so mean. My son raged all the way to school and it was only when we got in the carpool line that I told him I’d been playing an April Fool’s joke on him.

I think he’s going to be mad at me all day. Good thing I’m bringing his class cupcakes! Of course, when I whip the top of the cupcake holder, the kids will be presented with a selection of carrot and celery sticks in Dixie cups (rabbit food is appropriate for this time of year, right?). I’ll let them carry on for a bit and then I’ll fetch the real treats (Pink Peeps rabbits on green icing surrounded by jelly beans and gummy carrots).

Are you planning any pranks today or have you been the recipient of one?

No pranks planned, but I actually have lost most of my spring break due to snow! We only get Friday and Monday off, so I wish that had been a prank for me....then it wouldn't be true!

Not planning any pranks today. But do remember quite a few from school days. Maybe as adults we should practice that holiday more. You did quite good with yours.

no pranks here. That is too good. I have a horrible poker face so usually don't plan anything. :)

Hilarious.

I just saw that Google announced this morning it has officially changed its name to Topeka. I wonder how long they will let the joke go on?

No pranks planned here. But, the best one that happened in San Diego was several years ago when local radio deejays made an announcement that the Space Shuttle was going to land in San Diego due to bad weather in Florida. They said it would be landing at a small local airport. THOUSANDS of people showed up causing mass chaos in the streets around the airport. The police had to help with the traffic control. I guess many folks didn't realize that the shuttle would not be able to really land at that airport because it is way too small, and if this were to ever really happen, would instead go to our local military airport. The deejays were fired (very popular deejays I might add) and another station picked them up.

We took delivery of our new car two days ago. When I opened the garage door with the remote this morning, I yelled "oh no" and my husband came running (as I knew he would). As he was looking out the kitchen window at the car, I softly said April Fool in his ear, gave him a kiss and walked away.

I will be on guard until I shut my eyes tonight as I know he will try to get me back somehow...

Very funny. I thought about playing a prank on my kids, but didn't. I guess there's still time...

No pranks here. But today is my sister-in-law's anniversary. Can you imagine the scene at the church if that prank was pulled? "Do you take...?" "Yes (or No)," then "April's Fool!!" Yikes! I don't think I could take a chance like that!

No pranks but funny story. Eleven years ago tomorrow (the 2nd) my husband proposed to me. I always remember the date because he was going to do it the day before but was worried I would think it was an April Fool's Joke (and I probably would have!) LOL! :)

Got an email from the boss saying he quit. And he really did. Not good timing on his part, really.

My neighbor thought it would be funny to tell me my car tire was flat as I was getting in the car to go to work.

That is a great prank! My husband actually told my young daughters that I had bought them toys and they were in the car. The disappointment on their faces was too much for me to handle so I actually went out and got them one new toy each. I think they are too young to try to pull one over just yet.

Bookworm - you cannot mess with kids and toys! That one was mean and I would have done exactly what you did!
