Forget the summer solstice.
School let out yesterday, which for me always signals the official start of summer.
The kids are thrilled, and I'll be glad to have them home for the summer, though these next few months are hardly a vacation for me. As almost any mom will tell you, June, July, and August are some of our busiest months of the year. The carpooling, the camps, the carpooling, summer gym, the carpooling, cross country practice (yes, it starts in June), the carpooling...
But beyond the busyness is the promise of vacation. Real vacation.
I just booked flights for Vermont. We're headed back to Stowe, our favorite summer cool spot. But this year we've decided to branch out a bit--part of our vacation will be in Maine. It will be our first trip there--ever--and we're really looking forward to it. If anyone's ever been to the Acadia/Bar Harbor area please let me know the must-sees and must-dos. And if you have any hotel recommendations, I'd love to hear them, too, because there are so many hotels, motels, inns, lodges, and manors that I'm having trouble deciding.
Does anyone else have their summer vacation plans set yet? And what do you consider the unofficial start of summer?
