Keep on ranting, Kate. I'm not taking that swine flu vaccine either. Some of us already picked up immunity from the previous times it's been around.

I'm also a big believer in vitamins & supplements. And I use exercise and dietary choices to keep healthy--and keep those good readings so I can show the doc that it's working. Also take a LOT of Vitamin D3.

Thank you, everyone, for chiming in on this. I'm really glad to hear that so many aren't buying the line that it takes a drug to fix a problem -- which is exactly the opposite of what they want. The pharmas want return customers! Why would they want to cure high BP or cholesterol?
Vitamin D is a wonderfully powerful immune system booster. I take 3000 mg/daily, plus a probiotic and trust my body to do what nature intended it to do - kill germs.

I'm absolutely with you on this. I had a friend whose two boys got the "piggie" flu -- and she was a wreck. I reminded her that far more people die from the regular (non-scary) flu every year (and in car accidents ... but she's not afraid to drive).

We don't do flu shots in my family, and we haven't gotten sick in more than a decade. The problem is, the human race is used to slapping a bandaid on a problem instead of getting to the heart of it.

Urgh.. it's all already been said, but you hit a sore spot with me. Well said!

I just had to jump back on the soap box. I just don't understand why the majority of doctors pooh pooh natural and alternative methods for treating common chronic problems. Granted, we do need western medicine for some things (like if you break your leg or have a heart attack).

Years ago I had carpel tunnel in both hands. My doctor sent me to a "hand" specialist. The man was arrogant and had quite the ego. He wanted to schedule all these tests and gave me no alternatives. I left and never went back.

I found a wonderful self help book put out by a hellerworks professional. Hellerworks emphasizes the body’s natural ability to heal itself when good posture and alignment is restored. They use specific stretches to restore adhered, tight and restricted connective tissue to normal state (which is what happens when you get carpel tunnel among other repetive stress injuries). It took months to work through the program, but I have not had any carpel tunnel symptoms for years.

So much for the "hand" specialist.

Kate, I'm 1000% with you on this one (and no, the extra zero is not a typo)! I've never gotten a regular seasonal flu shot (and never had the flu for that matter) so there's no way I'd even consider getting the H1N1 vaccine. Frankly, I'd rather take the (minimal) chance of having the flu and being sick for a few days than get the vaccine and risk permanent neurological damage from the toxins.

Your BP story is like my cholesterol story. I got a screening in August and discovered that my total cholesterol was at 301 (supposed to be under 200). I refused to see my doctor and take the statins that I knew he would want to prescribe, but instead chose dietary modifications and exercise. In eight weeks my total cholesterol dropped 42 points, without the need for expensive doctor visits and dangerous prescription drugs. I'm sure that there are lots of medical people (and the pharmaceutical industry) who wouldn't like to hear this either.

Elaine, I hear you. I was on blood pressure meds three years ago. The cardiologist told me after a few years, he'd probably have to increase it, and eventually I'd be on two drugs to control it because, in his words, that's the aging process. He said he had patients taking up to 5 pills to control their BP. I said, "Obviously, it's NOT controlling it, then, or his BP wouldn't keep going up." The dr. was not happy with me.

Determined not to be one of those patients, I started on an acupuncture program, increased my vitamin D, ate healthier, dumped dairy and white flour, and VOILA. BP dropped down to normal. I'll bet there are a bunch of medical people who won't like me saying that, either.

I agree with you 100%. It's the same thing with natural and herbal remedies for many chronic problems. The big pharma companies don't want people to know about those because they are inexpensive and people will use them instead of their drugs (which are expensive). And some of these natural remedies may actually cure some problems, whereas drugs only "control" the problem in a lot of cases. (In which case you'll be on their drug forever to manage that problem...which I'm sure the big phara companies love...profits for many years). Oh I could get on the soap box with you now that you've gotten me started....
