Love is Murder is over for 2013. But we still have some fine mystery conventions coming up this year. When I was a newbie, I went to as many as I could. And I met so many fine folks, made lasting friendships with other fans and even with some of the talented authors. The mystery community is the friendliest bunch you'll find anywhere. So if you go, walk right up to Sue Grafton and say hi. She will make time for you. So will Lee Child or Michael Connelly or Anne Perry. And the sleuth in you might even track down a Cozy Chick or two. Here's a short list of opportunities and the guest of honors.
Left Coast Crime - March 21 - 24 - Colorado Springs, CO, Craig Johnson and Laura Lippman
Midwest Mystery Showcase - April 26-27 - Waukesha, WI - Raymond Benson
Malice Domestic - May 3-5 - Bethesda, MD - Laurie R. King and Peter Robinson
Crimefest - May 30 - June 2 - Bistol, UK - Lee Child, Jeffery Deaver, Sue Grafton, P.D. James
Thrillerfest - July 10 - 11 - New York City - Michael Connelly, T. Jefferson Parker
Deadly Ink - Aug 2 - 4 - New Brunswick, NJ - Hank Phillippi Ryan, Toastmaster - Rosemary Harris
Killer Nashville - Aug 22 - 25 - Nashville, TN - Anne Perry
Bouchercon - Sept 19 - 22 - Albany, NY - Sue Grafton, P.C. Doherty
Magna cum Murder - Oct 25 - 27 - Indianapolis, IN - Steve Hamilton, Banquet Speaker, Hank Phillippi Ryan
Did I miss any? Are you going to any? Which one is your favorite?

Awesome list, I wish you all lots of fun! The only convention I am going to, is the Autoren Love Letter Convention in Berlin, Germany, last weekend of May. And the only thriller author who will be there is Karen Rose (but her books are too scary for me!). Still, it is going to be fun :)
ReplyDeleteA convention in Berlin sounds wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI live in Ohio...wish there were some conventions near me! They sound like so much fun.
ReplyDeleteBrooke, depending on where you are in Ohio, Magna might be in driving range and that's a great event.
ReplyDeleteBrook, I'm in Dayton and Killer Nashville is less than a six hour drive from here. I'm going again this year.
ReplyDeleteKiller Nashville has a good reputation. One of these days....
ReplyDeleteMalice is my favorite convention followed by Bouchercon.
ReplyDeleteI was registered for Malice - it's my bd and our daughter lives in DC so it's perfect. But something came up (not bad, just something) and I had to cancel. HOWEVER I have every intention of heading to Malice again as soon as I can! Adrienne in MN
ReplyDelete( Hmmm...I could drive to Waukesha!)
My favorite is Malice. I have been to Bouchercon twice.
ReplyDeleteDru and Shirley, I'll miss your friendly faces this year:( And Adrienne, I'll be in Waukesha for that event.
ReplyDeleteI go to Killer Nashville- its great! Folks there are friendly, and helpful and the sessions are terrific. I had to miss last year(stupid bronchitis) but am so looking forward to returning next August.
ReplyDeleteKelly, say hi to my friend Allan Ansorge. He always goes - writes a fun series you might want to check out.
ReplyDeleteGreat list, Deb! I absolutely loved the Love is Murder conference in Chicago - thanks for encouraging me to go! I will see you in Waukesha!
