Gone Cruising

by Maggie Sefton

When you read this post on Tuesday, January 29th, I'll be cruising in the Caribbean on a one-week cruise leaving Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Saturday January 26 and returning Saturday, February 2nd.  We'll be visiting Grand Turk, Turks, & Caicos; St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands; Half Moon Cay, Bahamas; and Colonial San Juan, Puerto Rico.

This is my first cruise, and I'm really looking forward to it.  Usually I prefer to actually visit foreign countries for longer periods and walk around, travel, and get a feel for the locale.  But, this particular cruise intrigued me, so I decided it was time to give it a try.

I'll report back to all of you next week and let you know how I enjoyed it.  :)  Meanwhile, why don't you share some of your favorite cruise vacations.

  1. The BEST cruise: On the Regent Seven Seas Voyager, Apr. 9-23, 2005. It was the last segment of their 2005 World Cruise.

We boarded in Civitavecchia (Rome). The next morning we were in Monte Carlo - spent the day with a private driver who showed us parts of Provence I'd never been to before. Then cruised the Mediterranean for 2 days. Docked in Malaga, Spain for the day. From there, we cruised to Funchal, Madeira. Then we headed out to sea, passing through Gibraltar.

We sailed for open water, cruising the Atlantic Ocean for 5 days until reaching Bermuda. After a day there, we were at sea for 2 more days. Stopped in the Bahamas for a day. Then on to our final port, Ft. Lauderdale.

  2. I have been on one cruise as an adult, and it was from
Romania to Amsterdam on a small river cruise ship. 115 passengers.
It was done in October 2011 and the Autumn colours were fabulous. It took 28 days and was magic.
    The best bit?
Not a single moment of being seasick. An absolute bonus to someone who gets giddy watching waves on the TV.

I'd do it again in a hearbeat.

  3. Some years ago, my husband and I went on a cruise to Antarctica - first on his bucket list. Since he was seasick our first night out, at dinner they sat me with the table full of single men. Of course, they were all young enough to be my children.

  4. Honeymoon cruise on a small French ship. We went from Miami to the Orinoco river to Angel Falls in Venezuela.

  5. Two years ago, my husband and I did a transatlantic cruise on the Celebrity Equinox departing from Ft. Lauderdale with its final destination in Rome. Before our first port in Spain, we were at sea for eight solid days. Loved it. We have done many cruises, but a transatlantic cruise is special with so many more activities planned for all those days at sea. Hope to do it again.

  6. Wondering when your ship would be in Puerto Rico? Our training ship just left there today after being in port for 2 days. It looked like they had wonderful weather so I am hoping you are having great weather too.

  7. We've been on several cruises and have loved them all. The last one we went on sailed from Honolulu to Sydney. Wonderful, wonderful time! I hope you are having an awesome time Maggie.
