With myself.
The thing is I have a book due soon. It must get finished. Yet...
My nesting instincts are kicking in. They do that every a) fall and b) time I have a book due. Without fail. Everywhere I look around the house I see a potential project. The bathrooms need serious help. The boys' rooms need work. The laundry room. The 15 year old carpet is showing its age.
I went to Home Depot yesterday and spent 30 minutes looking at bathroom vanities. Mind you, I KNOW nothing can be done around the house until my book is done. I couldn't help myself. I wrote down serial numbers, checked out tile. I'm dreaming of new floors and having nightmares that I'll never get this book finished.I recognize that my whole nesting issue is one big procrastination technique. But so far I'm winning the battle. I've written over 40 pages this week and didn't buy a single gallon of paint. But who am I kidding? I'm only writing faster so I can tackle my home improvements.
Whatever works, right? Are you dreaming of any around-the-house projects?

Kudos on writing 40 pages. How many pages do you write, on average, in a week?
That could be your goal..finish book then tackle home improvement projects.
My next home-improvement project will be to paint the walls. I'll have to start looking for painters and once I find one, then look at paint colors. I won't paint the walls myself because the one time I painted, more paint was on me and the floors and the windows and the covered furniture and the doors.
I'm with Dru---it sounds like a good dangling carrot to get you through your draft!
We're going to add a storm door to our front door. Minor project.

Mystery Writing is Murder
I want to rip out the carpet in my dining room and replace it with an area rug. Hubby disagrees because of the dinosaur-size dust bunnies we get thanks to four shedding cats (who seem to shed on a year-round basis). I want to put in a new runner in the hallway, replace the tile in the kitchen, change the facade of the front of the house . . . Yeah, I can think of a few projects I'd like to see done. :)
My house is a do-it-yourselfer's dream....no lack of projects anywhere.
I re-arrange my kid's rooms, clean the basement or organize the kitchen cabinets when I'm supposed ot be studying chemistry and math.
I'll be thankful when those classes are finished and I can refinish a dresser.
Heather, yay on your 40 pages! Can't wait to read them. Home ideas? We want to paint the guest bedroom before Christmas.
I'm very impressed that you haven't bought any paint!
My motivation involves shopping and pedicures...

Dru, I love to paint. If I lived closer, I'd volunteer. Painters can be expensive! And usually, 20 pages a week is an accomplishment. So this week has been fantastic!
Storm doors are great in the winter, Elizabeth. Which reminds me, our storm door needs new hardware. Another project! They're everywhere!
Lorna, LOL on the dust bunnies. Would there be hardwood or tile under the area rug? I would think that would be easier to clean than wall-to-wall. Just a quick Swiffering? I don't have cats, so I could be very wrong about that. :)
Debbie, I think we share that procrastination gene. :)
LOL, Shelley. I'm really wanting a pedicure these days. Sounds like heaven. If you need help with the painting, let me know! And you'll see the pages next week!
Yeah, on 40 pages! Wish I had written that many. I barely made 20. :(
Good on you, Heather. You'll get it done. Use Home Depot as a dangling carrot if you have to. Last year had several small home projects that cropped up and had to be done, like new water heater, new tile in downstairs section near water heater, garage door opener, etc. I'm kinda hoping this year won't have much. Ohh, yeah.
Hoo-boy... so much to do, but so little steam to get it done. I was in Virginia for 10 days and came home to an accumulation of cat fur and dust plus all the other chores that stack up while I'm gone. We have 20-25 people coming over tomorrow night and I MUST get busy!
Lorna, we have hardwood floors in our kitchen and hearth room where we spend most of our time (as do the cats). I have a Roomba that I love. It picks up the cat hair and dust while I work at my computer.
40? Awesome. I struggled getting 18 done this week! As far as home improvement goes, I'd like to move! Our upstairs floor plan isn't great for two kids, but there's nothing out there we want to buy and truthfully, my husband doesn't even want to look! So maybe I'll look at painting the 'ugly room."
Does anyone else have one of those? It's where we spend all of our time too!
I would love to throw out everything in every closet. Well, maybe not EVERYTHING but close to everything. But I have other people in the house (kidlet packrats) who won't let me. Sigh.
Lindy, I'd always wondered about those roombas. I'll have to look into it. Thanks for the suggestion!
Denise, the 40 is an abnormality. Considering how little I've been writing lately, it's a miracle.
Maggie, everything seems to go at once, doesn't it? Hopefully you'll skate through this year, no problem!
Lindy, there is that problem of energy! LOL. It's nice to have company once in a while--it's a good reason to clean the whole house.
Painting is probably cheaper than a new place, JB. And less hassle. :) I have the moving itch, too, though it probably won't happen for a few more years (bummer!).
Wendy, I think that's why closets are made. And attics! Our attic is downright scary.
I so like the idea of writing faster in order to tackle some home improvement project that I'm going to try your approach. Now I just have to decide on my 'reward' project (there are many to choose from).
