Vampire Fever

Vampires are hot right now. But, ya know what? They always have been. Since 1819 and John Polidori's The Vampyre to Charlaine's Harris' Sookie Stackhouse vampire series now an HBO hit called True Blood.

Remember Dracula? Dark Shadows? The Munsters? Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles?
How about more recent - Buffy the Vampire Slayer? the Twilight series? authors like LA Banks, Laurell Hamilton, Anita Blake, Kim Harrison?

We love the undead. Some of us even think we are vampires. Go to www.vampires.com and learn about fang implants (not those plastic thingees) or find out the ten things to do now that you're immortal.

All I can say to you vamps out there is... you've come a long way, baby!

Many of us no doubt have forgotten that Dark Shadows was a hit in its day (night?). I watched it under less than ideal circumstances--stuck at my parents' house one summer, without a job, and without knowing a soul in the town they had moved to. It was peculiarly fascinating--and then I noticed that they were killing off the central characters at the rate of one a week. I'm not sure how long it survived after that. Or maybe it rose from the dead with a whole new cast.

Dracula is one of my all-time favorite books, and The Munsters one of my all-time fave tv shows. I only wish Dark Shadows would pop up on tv somewhere again, I've always wanted to see it.

I remember Dark Shadows! I was a new mom w/baby. It was scary! They showed it later afternoon in WashDC metro area. And I was a devotee of Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles. Gotta love Lestat. I loved the books. The movies didn't quite do it for me. And Buffy, of course.

I watched some episodes of Dark Shadows when I was a kid and would be staying for a visit at my gramdma's. Felt like a soap opera that you needed to keep up with. Still pretty good, though. I was disappointed when CBS canceled "Moonlight". I'm not a huge vampire fan, but Alex O'Laughlin, wow! Yummy!

I have to admit it - I like those vamp men! Eric Northman is appealing in print and in the flesh and I think I had a serious high-school crush on Lestat from the Anne Rice vampire novels. Vamps seem to be hotter than ever. Will the werewolves ever catch up?

Don't we have enough problems with our hairy men? No way am I adding werewolves into the mix!
