As you read this, I'll be in Washington, D.C., for the annual Romance Writers of America (RWA) conference. My first conference ever was an RWA conference years ago in New York--quite a learning experience for a newbie writer--one I'd never trade for anything.
I started my career writing romance. After a couple of books I made the leap to mysteries. All along I knew one thing was certain: I couldn't keep the mystery out of my romance, and I couldn't keep romance out of my mysteries. Thankfully, I've never had to.
Now with the upcoming publication (Feb. 2010) of Truly, Madly: A Lucy Valentine Novel (the official title) I'm jumping into the mainstream fiction genre (women's fiction). Truly, Madly is a little mystery, a little romance, and a lot of in between that's hard to label. I just like to call it a good story, but it does straddle the romance and mystery markets, so I'm doing all I can to promote it in both genres. I'll let you know how that goes. Until then, I'm going to enjoy my conference, continue to learn everything I can about my craft, and meet lots of new people (including my new publisher!).
For those interested, the first chapter of Truly, Madly is now up on my WEBSITE and here's a sneak peek at my new cover--I love that it captures the magical feeling of the book...
See you next week,
