I've spent a good bit of time lately in doctors' offices and the orthodontist's office and the dentist's (my oldest son took a bad fall two weeks ago and broke 8 teeth) office. So, a lot of waiting. While this may seem like a waste of time to some, I love waiting rooms. For one reason only--the magazines. Crazy talk, I know.
I only subscribe to one magazine at home, Mystery Scene, so it's a treat to have all the latest issues (a miracle that they're not 2 years old--but I wouldn't care if they were) of People and Good Housekeeping and Redbook at arm's length. I love magazines. People would probably be my favorite, because I love the mix of celebrity and human interest. Reader's Digest is a close second, though I've found that waiting rooms don't often carry this one anymore (anyone know why?).
Magazines are my reading material of choice when I fly, too. I always stop in the airport bookstores and load up before a flight. A magazine is the perfect tool to take my mind off what I'm doing (not a big fan of flying) without absorbing me completely (I like to be aware of what's going on, and you know, trying to pick out the air marshals).
There are already four appointments in my day-planner over the next couple of weeks, and I'm already looking forward to the waiting. Hopefully all the new issues will have come in by then, but if not, I'll simply reread or turn to my fallback--my crossword puzzle book.
How about you? What's your favorite magazine?
