When my grandmother was alive, the two of us used to joke all the time about the worst curse word of them all: the E word.
Even though I’m on the petite side, I realized recently how completely out of shape I am. Genetics, apparently, only go so far. This probably has a lot to do with how much time I spend in front of a computer all day. And okay, my laziness.
While I don't have any weight to lose, I'm in desperate need of toning and cardio. But...I’m not a fan of exercise. If not for heart health and wanting to live to see great-grandkids then I’d be perfectly happy being a lump in my desk chair.
However, I kinda like my heart, and I do want to see great grandkids one day. Heck, even grandkids for that matter.
So I’ve started exercising. (Insert horror music.)
Over the years I’ve done various programs from pilates to classes at the local Y, but nothing has ever stuck (again, laziness). And I’m not saying this current program will, either.
I was shopping at Target (of course) and spotted an exercise video by Jillian Michaels of The Biggest Loser fame. Three levels (easy, medium, hard) of circuit training (3 minutes strength, 2 minutes cardio, and 1 minute abs). So far I’ve been doing the easy level, which let me tell you isn’t so easy! (paraphrasing Jillian: If you’re looking for a modification of a jumping jack, look elsewhere!) My muscles are SO sore.
I can’t say I work out every day (as you’re supposed to, according to the DVD), but I’ve already started seeing toning (hooray!). And Jillian's toughness cracks me up.
So, even though it is the E word, I have to admit it might be worth all the trouble. (I can’t believe I just said that.)
