All throughout the Nina Quinn series Nina jokes about either earning—or losing—Step-mother of the Year.
Now me, I’m a good mom, a good wife. Not great. Certainly not Mom- or Wife of the Year worthy. But decent.
However, this week I think I earned a nomination. Why?
I made chicken pot pie.
I despise my homemade chicken pot pie. But my family loves it. All four of them gobble it up so only tiny crust crumbs remain in the bottom of the pie dish. Nary a leftover to be seen.
Dissect the recipe and there isn’t anything I could pick out and say, “Aha! That’s why I don’t like it.” Leftover roasted chicken. Potatoes. Carrots. Peas. Pie crust. Salt, pepper, butter, chicken stock, a dash of poultry seasoning. What’s not to love? But put it all together and no thank you.
But I make it. Because my family loves it. It’s that simple. Nomination worthy, don’t you think?
The things we do for love...
Who else wants to join me on the ballot? Is there a dish you loathe but make for your family anyway? I’ll also take any pot pie recipes you have. There has to be one out there I’ll love as much as my family.
