Lately, I've felt a bit listless when it comes to my TBR pile.
I think it's because I finally finished The Book Thief. This was a novel I picked up intermittently all summer long. I'd read 30 or 40 pages and then start to lose focus. This didn't happen because it was a bad good. On the contrary, the writing is superb. It's just that the content was heavy (Nazi Germany and how it effected the children there) and the narration could be difficult to follow (the book is narrated by Death).
Absolutely worth the effort, but now I feel like I need something that will make me laugh out loud. I did read the Sex Lives of Cannibals for book club and there are some hilarious scenes in that travelogue. A friend of mine is pushing me to read Are You There Vodka, It's Me Chelsea.
I also need a break from mysteries (I know, you're gasping!) but as Diana once said, we can't read too much in our own genre lest we accidentally cross voices, so while I read a lot of historical mysteries, I read contemporary cozies more sporadically.
So what are you reading right now? Love it? Bored with it? Should the rest of us be told about it?
