Catch Phrases

By Heather

Do you have a phrase you find yourself repeating day in, day out? For me these days it’s “Is that too much to ask?” and “outrage” [as in, “We’re out of mayo.” “Outrage.”] In the past it’s been “How bizarre” and “Too funny.”

I was on the phone with the doctor’s office the other day and the woman on the other end kept saying “Ain’t that the truth?”

Seems like every so often a new phrase will creep in and take over, pushing the current one out. I find it happens in my writing as well. As I edit I notice my characters will say or think one phrase repetitively. Not good. And probably not good in real life, either, but that’s just the way it is, and those around me will just have to get used to it. I don't think it’s too much to ask.
