As I look at that title, I’m reminded of the line in Aladdin spoken by the evil Jafar: I’m giving you your reward…your eternal reward (insert evil cackle)!
But no, this blog isn’t about eternal rewards, it’s about personal rewards. I blogged about this a little bit the other day on my other blog, but thought it had broader appeal over here (i.e., hardly anyone reads that blog, and I’m out of ideas for today).
I finished the rough draft for Kiss Me, Kill Me on Monday and my head is in that foggy place similar to tunnel vision as I do revisions to make the book, well, readable.
But I did manage to find time to buy myself a little reward for finishing the book. A book. The newest by Jane Porter, Mrs. Perfect. Which is…perfect for me as I’m loving women’s fiction right now and trying to find a home for my attempt at one.
And it got me thinking. About rewards. I know I’m not the only one who does this—rewards myself for the little things. My good friend Sharon Short rewards herself when the first body appears in her manuscript. She treats herself to sushi and a movie. I’ve adopted this policy, but get Chinese food instead as I’m not a sushi girl. (This was a great policy in Weeding out Trouble, when the body came at the end of the first chapter!)
How about all of you? Do you reward yourself for those little accomplishments in life? With what? Food, jewelry, books?

Chocolate. It’s all about good chocolate… When I finished SPUN TALES, the latest in THE BLACK WIDOW AGENCY series, I broke out the Lindt Truffles. I am blessed (read “cursed”) with living near the Lindt factory where they have a factory outlet with different discounted items everyday. How sweet is that? Besides, it’s how my Black Widows celebrate each successful case. Come to think of it, it’s how they celebrate everything…

Yarn.
And books.
And stuff for my dog.
Jewelry is nice, but I hardly ever wear more than my wedding band, so it would just get to glitter pretty in my jewelry box.
When I get GENTRY done, I’m going nuts at the LYS.

I have to say food, but I’m trying to change that. When I got my Port out, I went to the art museum and then ate at an amazing little resturaunt. Since then I’ve been bad about celebrating the little victories, but I”m going to start. Maybe if I lose a pound this week, I’ll go swimming.

LOL, Felicia. I would have said you were cursed (read blessed) to be living near a Lindt factory. Does is just smell heavenly all the time?
Marissa, until Casey Daniels posted about what a LYS was I didn’t have a clue! I’m not much of a knitter, but even I could go nuts in a yarn shop. And I can see why you’d choose dog stuff too–my girl scout troop just spent a fortune at Petsmart for item to donate to the local shelter and it was a blast picking everything out.
Lynn, you definitely have to celebrate the small victories! I hope you’re doing laps by this time next week.

I reward myself with naps (yeah, I’m a wild one, lol), movies and work-free days. I love to go to all the movies that no-one else wants to see; I sit alone in the theater and munch out on popcorn!

Absolutely books. I think it’s important to reward yourself with the little things that make you happy on a regular basis. It’s important to take care of yourself.
Living near a Lindt factory!!! Lindt is The. Best. Chocolate. Ever.
And ditto on the pet stuff. I love picking up little treats for my cat when I go into PetsMart to buy her food. I think my favorite type of store (after bookstores of course) is pet stores =)

I’ll be getting a pedicure next week as a reward for, as director, putting together my very first Vacation Bible Scool program.
And I love my books. But those rewards are for small accomplishments. Like getting out of bed. EVERY day.

Fun post, Heather! I’ve been thinking about rewards all day! I’d have to say my favorite reward for a job done is going to the mall. I love to walk around, look at the people, wander into stores just to look, and for a few hours, just be aimless.
I love those books, too…but I’m afraid I couldn’t just buy books as a reward. There’s too many I want to read!
Hope you get to Mrs. Perfect soon…it was wonderful!

Theo makes it a point to read Heather’s other blog every time she updates it–no matter how soul-crushingly tedious the subject matter. That’s because Theo is very caring and generous.
You’re welcome.
