    Déjà vu

Last night I was the guest speaker at a local college class. The class, Cincinnati Authors, was required to read Trouble in Bloom so they’d be able to discuss it with me.

    No problem, right?

Well, the class did their part. And though some confessed to not being avid readers, they read the book. No one had a bad thing to say about it. And the debate between Kevin and Bobby rages on…

Me, on the other hand… I was cramming in the parking lot before the class! How often do you reread books? Well, for me, there are a handful of books I’ll read over and over again. And none of those are my own books.

The last time I read Bloom was 2006, when I turned it in. And I’ve written two full manuscripts since then and two partials. I don’t have the brain power I used to (a blog for another day). I, of course, remembered the main plot of Bloom, but needed a crash course in the details.

As always, I’m amazed at the questions raised during classes like this one, and humbled by everyone’s praise. And the best part? I was a question on the class’s midterm. How fun is that?

Special shout-out to Jeff, the Cinci Author professor, who’s starting a webzine (it should launch this weekend), where he features amongst the literary material (I kid you not) “the best artist to come out of San Quentin.”

    1. You are so cool. I thought getting up in front of my church to make an announcement was bad enough. But college students?!?!?! Yikes!

I hope your cold is better. I seemed to have passed a bit of mine on to my littlest man. Hey, mom always taught me to share!

    2. A question on a mid-term? Now that IS fun! Do you know if they all got it right??

    3. With enough books in my TBR pile to last me until I’m 150, I must admit I don’t reread a lot. But I do read Dracula every Halloween and A Christmas Carol every Christmas.

Fun topic, Heather…what are your favorite rereads? Anyone else?

    4. Debbie, I used to be terrified (and terrible) at speaking in front of groups, but honestly, you get used to it after a while. I still tend to ramble, but I actually enjoy it now!

Hope your little one gets well soon. I’m off to the doc today. SIGH!

Laura, not sure if they got it right–the midterm was scheduled after I left for the night. I hope they did! I’ll have to show you the book reports last year’s class had to do on Digging Up Trouble! LOLOL.

    5. Melissa, I’m with you! I have way too many books to read to be rereading frequently. I love Son of the Morning by Linda Howard, so I’ll reread that occasionally. Plus some of the Jane Austen classics. Not too many more…
