    Spring Forward!

    JB Stanley Icon

tulip.jpgMarch is a tricky month. It can arrive like a lion, carrying an armload of snow and viruses, or it can blow down trees with a forceful rainstorm (we’ve got two down today), or it can tiptoe in on rays of sunshine and then blast the ground with a sudden freeze the day before Easter.

I don’t know about you, but I have major cabin fever. I want sun and I want spring. I’m actually willing to trade an hour of sleep in exchange for a full afternoon of daylight. Don’t you feel more energized when it’s not growing dark at five p.m.?

This morning, I got the spring cleaning bug and that’s why I’m posting later in the day. My poor family has been subjected to my tornado-like activity. I’ve rooted through closets, toy cupboards, drawers, bookshelves, and even into the shadowy corners of the pantry in order to rid the house of clutter. I like to begin new seasons with some extra space. It’s a good excuse to drive off to Goodwill with a carload of junk and return home from Target with colorful dishtowels, cute Easter decorations, a bouquet of pink tulips for the kitchen table.

I still feel like the house is a bit dull though. It’s too early to plant flowers outside but I’d love to incorporate some spalshed of color around the joint. Any tips?

What do you do to celebrate/commemorate the tentative arrival of spring?

    1. We got over a foot of snow overnight here, so I’m longing for spring too. My suggestion for color would be to check your local grocery store. Ours has a florist section that’s selling potted tulips, daffodils, and hyacinth that have already bloomed. They’ll brighten up the house, then you can plant them outside for next year!

I’ve got to make a run to Goodwill, too…

    2. Two weeks ago I was so grumpy not my usual style, but I realized I was just tired of the weather. Then last week we got another dump of snow which gave me another snow day but I didn’t use it to my advantage. I’m just tired of winter this year. And now I’m going to have to argue my way through my vacation in April since I don’t have enough time to take all the days I need.

So yesterday when the sun was out we went shopping for my bf a gamingkeyboard and mouse and then I hit the grocery store. After that, it was a short walk with the lucky dog of the day. I used to take all three but I’m not that brave anymore.

So housecleaning will have to wait a while, but I’m so excited to soon be driving home in the sunshine rather than the dark. Can’t wait to be sitting outside on the porch with a beer waiting for fireflys.

Many years ago, a group of us from work used to go to a dive bar that was on the river and served buckets of clams on the first friday where the air felt soft. They had tables outside that you could sit at and just watch the day go by.

    3. Boy, JB, you’re full of spring energy. I’m happy to be feeling human again. Meanwhile, I’ll enjoy reading about your spring whirlwind.

    4. JB,

I don’t know the first thing about flowers..like when to plant, but if you want color, I suggest mini calla lilies. I had them one year…but the bulbs died and mom has refused to plant them ever since…and I love them. Regular callas are white, but at least the minis are colored.
